ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee... unless you're Thatcher.

Titehead - have you spelled your name wrongly?
For respect, not much of it around today, especially on AnswerBank it seems.
Mark Thatcher should pay for the funeral, he's got a few million hasn't he and its his mum after all.

Looks like they've already done it! On the cheap . . .

It's all part of the Palace of Westminster, in which she was employed, that is the reason the chimes are being silenced, and that is why they weren't for the Queen Mother or Princess Diana.
From Twitter;

"Breaking news: As an act of remembrance for Margaret Thatcher, Big Ben is to be made unemployed."

"Waiting for Mail attack on "vile, left wing" councils who do let their clocks chime on Wednesday"

"This week's news: Ding dong ding dong follows Ding Dong ding dong."

"Even Big Ben is spineless, not playing the Ding Dong because of a campaign. Outrageous."

Mostly from #bigben

The very idea is ludicrous.

I have not always agreed with Mr George Galloway in the past and I will never forgive him for making a complete T**T of himself when he appeared on Big Brother, but, by God, can he make a point ::::

What new lunacy will we wake up to tomorrow ? Perhaps we should turn all the lights out for 2 mins, all over the UK, as a mark of our respect !

Personally, I can hardly wait for Thursday, then perhaps we can stop talking about the dreadful woman.
My sentiments exactly mikey .....

There was a "profound dignity through silence," Mr Bercow added.

Perhaps when all the hooha has died down our esteemed speaker could remind the braying donkeys on all sides of parliament of just that very thing.
The bell is being silenced as a mark of respect from the houses of parliament.

As this is a free country you are not being prevented from showing a lack of respect as is your right.
anotheoldgit. You are far too intelligent to believe that nonsense about the Palace of Westminster. George Galloway was right today...this really is a tidal wave of guff.

She is being given a State funeral, in all but name, at the same time as being canonised. If she was a Catholic, there would be a petition going around trying to make her a saint. Its bloody Diana all over again. At least Diana was loved by pretty much everybody.
Bloody bells.....about time they were silenced. Try sleeping in the Marriott County Hall, the Royal Horseguards, the RA Club or the Westminster Intercon.....
Not by me, mikey,
The Marketers of collectible Lady Thatcher Display Plates and Lady Thatcher tea-towels will have their ads filling the Sunday Supplements

Sadly, most will be manufactured in China
AOG, that's not respect - it's utter stupidity. This really is taking things too far.
smurf - the family are providing half - also I would add that money is pouring into London re those out to pay respects, the journalists, tv crews, foreign dignitaries, those attending the service as to hotels, food, travel. So the so called £10 million will be more than offset.
should have had her funeral six days later 23 april , then we could have called it saint george and the dragons day..
very good!
"So the so called £10 million will be more than offset"

DT, stop pouring out more guff!
