Samoa air - A country with one of the world's biggest obesity problems has started a flat air fare rate per kilo.

You, the bag, the kids doesn't matter you pay the price per kilo for the route

Good scheme?

Would you fly with a carrier that wanted to weigh you?

Will Ryan Air be annoyed at being beated to the idea?

could be a case of musical chairs, seems fair. I have sat next to ultra large people and believe me when you are going long distance it's not funny to have someone take almost two seats and sleeping is an impossibility.
you can fool some of the people some of the time.
That will never happen here. EU laws would render it discriminatory. And rightly so.
I think it is a brilliant idea.
I also think that obese people should be charged extra on flights. They spill over from their own seat into the next, and it is bloody uncomfortable spending several hours being squashed by a tub of lard.
if they can shove you through a scanner that shows off your bits, being weighed would be a breeze.
Samoa have been weighing people for yonks (so they can seat you in a balanced fashion). But making it the basis for charging you is new.

Whether it would work here is moot. It might be legal if, rather than penalties for the overweight, they structured it as discounts for the skinny.

You put in a guesstimate of your weight and pay accordingly when you book your ticket but as t Samoa Air say "Don`t worry, we`ll weight you again at the airport". A bit humiliating. I wonder if they give you a refund if you`ve been on a diet in the meantime?
i am sure i heard on the news this morning that they are going ahead with this plan.
I can fully understand that this would be discriminatory and humiliating when looked at from the human view but on the other hand why should a 9 stone person have to pay for a bag that's 3 kg overweight and 20 stone person with a bag within weight not have to? After all isn't the whole weight on a plane issue directly related to the amount/cost of fuel needed?
well methyl, I can only assume you are body beautiful - what a way to speak about a fellow human being!!
good points.
sorry prudie, that was for you.
"Would you fly with a carrier that wanted to weigh you?"

Definitely. I travel light.

"Thinair" - Very good!

that;s the problem, they cram as many onto the planes as possible, steerage class really, if you can afford to fly business or first class, which most can't, then you are stuck. I had the misfortune to sit next to a very large bloke, wide as well as tall, on a long haul, and it was the most uncomfortable flight i can remember.
You can methyl - it`s called Business Class :-)

they won't do it, seeing as how they want to get as many on as possible, look at Ryan Air, so called no frills, yet has more add ons than firefox.
Ryanair? What add ons?
