A redefining of "frivolous claim"

Absolutely ridiculous and pathetic, hope they tell her where to stuff her claim

I too thought it must be April 1st when I saw the front page of the mail on sunday, and the policewoman who is sueing a garage because she didn't look where she was going, and tripped over a kerb. Where on earth was her torch? This case needs to be thrown out before it wastes the money we have paid in taxes. Utter nonsense!
So do I. This sort of thing gets the Police a bad name.
Absolutely. Agree with both the above and baz. If she has a claim, and that's a big 'if', surely it would be against her employer? She must be covered under Employer Liability insurance, mustn't she?
Let her win & set a precedent. I can then sue for busting a tyre at pumps on raised island. dream on ;)
Poor show. People should just learn to look where they are going. And if it's dark then you either get a torch or look more carefully.

so when we are constantly being told what a dangerous job they do, now we know exactly how dangerous !
I always thought Police Officers had to be reasonably fit, having seen the photograph I reckon her 'paunch' caused her to lose her balance!
If I made a claim every time I tripped somewhere I'd be a millionaire by now. Actually, I'd be a billionalire!
*** billionaire (not billionlaire)
Perhaps she was going to buy flowers for someone who had been burgled.
I think councils should put up signs to say , due to the cold all pedestrians visiting this shopping centre, should put on adequate clothing , failure to do so could result in extreme discomfort .

I actually started composing a serious answer to this question but the more I progressed the more I realised how pathetic this officer has made herself look. So I didn't bother.
Pathetic, and a mockery to all our officers who perform their thankless duties to the public every day
Well, this is how it is going in the police, wrong people for the wrong jobs for the wrong reasons. Part of me thinks that the public are getting what- they deserve.
'wrong people for the wrong jobs for the wrong reasons. Part of me thinks that the public are getting what- they deserve'.

WHY? The public do not select, recruit or elect officers. Why are the public getting what they deserve?
Ridiculous claim. Obviously not an eagle eyed nimble footed Police officer. I think we should expect our WPc's to be fit and agile, the officer in question looked a trifle dumpy.
In a nutshell, the 'modern' police service has allowed itself to be dictated to by the PC obsessed, an increasing population in society who complain about this nonsense and that and have unfortunately got their own way. Now policing is far removed from proactive enforcement. Big subject.
Yes, ol, a big subject and one on which I think you and I entirely agree.

The biggest mistake was renaming it a police "service". Most people like the idea of a police "force" staffed by officers of above average height and build. It helps them sleep soundly in their beds. The idea of the police force is the prevention and detection of crime. But it is suggested that the burglary victim "failed to take proper care" of PC Jones. Strangely I thought it was the job of police officers to take care of burglary victims but, as Greavesie used to say to Saint, "It's a funny old world".

If PC Jones is dopey enough to trip over a kerb which, from the photograph, seemed quite prominent and she is even more dopey to make a song and dance about it in order to claim a bit of compo (about two years wages) she does not deserve her warrant card. But it seems she is not alone:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2302068/Police-20million-injury-claims-bonanza-backlash-grows-WPC-demanding-50K-burglary-victim-tripping-kerb.html
These examples are the tip of the iceberg of the nonsense that goes on in the modern 'service' New Judge. Like I suggested, the wrong people getting the wrong jobs for the wrong reasons (filling quota's) and they behave like this, what an absolute insult to the victims of this commercial burglary. And the senior ranks are no better due to the same problem with the selection process for promotion.

I would have recommended some police-blogs, so you can see what front-line officers are saying really goes on but the good ones have been closed down (for the obvious reasons). If interested try and get hold of the three books mentioned in this thread http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Society-and-Culture/Question1228316.html
New Judge, ref 'service', at the same time victims and complainants etc were renamed 'Customers'.
