I think the reason why white slave traders are historically treated with so much contempt is because they changed the way that indentured workers from Africa were treated. The African traders assumed that the indenture process would be the same in the New World.
They could not have known the evil of the traders.
Incidentally, the 'slavery' you refer to in Africa was nothing like what happened in the plantations of the US and Carribean. For one, slaves had the opportunity to work out their indenture.
Also, they didn't have slave owners raping women and splitting up families.
Only providing these points because your knowledge of the subject seems a little...sparse.

sp, as perhaps yours does on north african slave traders, who captured mostly white settlers across much of Europe, more than a million or so they say, but of course it doesn't get spoken about quite so much does it.

which is exactly what i was doing.....but as sp thinks hes the boards expert on every subject he must be correct musnt he, I suppose its just a momentary blip that hes decided not to mention how tribes used to go on raiding day outs to destroy villages and other tribes to sell those that where worth something and kill the rest that they considered of no value to the arab and other black slave traders.

To answer all the 'who would buy them?' questions - If I liked the movie, I would buy them. (I'm actually going to see it in about 20 minutes).
When I was a teenager, I had a large number of figurines and dolls on my shelves from a collection called 'Movie Maniacs' - they were little (about 8"-12") figures of such movie villains as Ghostface, Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees (my cousin has a big 18-incher of him), Freddie Krueger, etc. You buy these things because you're a fan of the movie and you like the merchandise.
Now, obviously, the maniacs that I used to own are fictional and slavery is not. But the dolls in question are homages to the movie, which happens to be one that's about slavery. People buy them for the same reason they buy figurines of Leatherface - because they like the movie and they like dolls. The idea that the toys in question 'trivialise' slavery is ludicrous in the extreme.

Seeing a my last post will inevitably be removed, let me explain.
I don't like bazwillrun and as I have already said, my opinion of him couldn't be lower.
I respectfully suggested last year that it would be best for us if we simply ignored each other's posts and didn't refer to each other.
I thought that would work, because there are plenty of other people whose views I disagree with with whom I can debate on AB.
However, since then, he has continued to post about me, and rather than debate the matter at hand, has instead used the opportunity to take personal digs.
This doesn't really bother me as such...it's just...creepy.
