"We have to look at the mind-set of such people, and why these types of massacres are more prevalent in the USA? Could it all be down to the huge ethnic mix of the population?"

The implication of that sentence, it seems to me, is that you are suggesting that the gun-related massacres in the US - those similar to the tragic events in Newtown, such as Columbine etc - have an ethnic dimension. Is that what you are implying?

In this case, and most other similar mass shootings, the perpertrators were clearly mentally unhinged. I don't think it's relevant where they come from, or if they are part of an organised crime network or a Mexican street gang.

You don't murder twenty 5-10 year old kids unless you're f***ed up in the head.
Actually AOG it is ..............The US Sneezes, the World catches a cold.
Referring to financial matters, it has nothing at all to do with shootings.

So calm down.

I see you have been busy with the shoe horn again.

senseless, desperately tragic event

In dragging race and ethnicity into it, I just hear barrels being scraped
I was merely pointing out the more general violent society in the USA, and not this particular shooting in particular.

But then I wouldn't expect some of you to understand, when there is yet another chance to once again get your regular cheap digs in.
You started it.
It is you who had the cheap dig AOG.
Ups, repeat of the word particular.
I'm surprised that no one you know who I mean has picked up on the fact that Obama wept when he spoke of the shooting. Such displays of emotion aren't what you'd usually expect from the President. But then, he's a ...

Ooh, is this a new game?

I'll go for ...human being.

sorry mags

Sorry AOG, but this sentence suggests that "these type of massacres", thereby including Newtown, are a direct consequence of ethnic diversity.

And yes, society in the USA may be 'generally more violent' compared to ours, but is not a patch on many other countries/cities where school/mall/cinema shootings are nowhere near as prevalent
anotheoldgit, is violent crime in America not linked to the fact there are eighty-eight guns for every hundred folk?
/// I'll go for ...human being. ///

I'll go for .....a politician.
Very cynical AOG. If we hadn't had the election yet, your comment might have had more to it.

A bit harsh to suggest that his tears weren't genuine. It's not so hard to imagine somebody being upset about 27 people, including 20 children, being slaughtered, is it?
/// And yes, society in the USA may be 'generally more violent' compared to ours, but is not a patch on many other countries/cities where school/mall/cinema shootings are nowhere near as prevalent ///

Exactly the pointy I am making, there are many other countries much more violent, some in the Middle East for example.

So take a country such as the US, who's population is made up of peoples from countries all over the world, including some from those more violent countries, and some of their actions are thus imported into the USA.

Britain is now beginning to experiencing the same type of thing although on a much smaller scale, and I challenge anyone to prove otherwise.

I wonder if he is also brought to tears when the caskets of his war dead arrive back on the shores of the good old US of A?
I'm sure if you look carefully at perpetrators of this kind of massacre, in the US & Europe they are by and large carried out by white men..........

We've gone over this ground time and time again on here. In broad handfuls the US isn't any worse than Europe if measured by population.

Who mentioned anything about black or white?

Being white doesn't make them any less violent or criminal minded, there are plenty of 'WHITE' countries in the world where they are very violent, but then we also have to include all shades of darkness between distinct 'WHITE' and 'BLACK'.
