Build 3,000 home a day, I wish our government would build that many in this country.

There was a recent radio discussion on the shortage of house in London, and it was asked where would they build them, there is no space left, and the only way would be 'UP' ie skyscrapers.

This got me wondering, didn't we try that in the 60s and haven't they started pulling down those dilapidated 'tower blocks' with their graffiti strewn walls, out of service lifts, and dark and dangerous 'stair wells'?

The question must then be asked, how can cities such as New York with their towing apartment blocks manage to retain theirs? They seem to have decent apartments with operative lifts to all floors, why are Londoners so different?

>>>I wish our government would build that many in this country.

I dont.

There are thousands and thousands of empty houses all over the country, many owned by councils.

We should do more to get those inhabitied before building MORE houses.

I dont want to live in a country where we have buildings stretching from the South East in Kent up to Carlisle on the Scottish Border.
Build 3,000 home a day ...that would take some workforce.
If tower blocks are the solution to our housing crisis but the fault lies with the people who live in them what does it say about our citizens.

Many countries throughtout the world with higher living density patterns cope with tower blocks and if you happen to live in Hong Kong its a necessity.

The tower blocks built in Newham in the 60's were excellent at housing its residents and until the collapse of one of the tower blocks at Ronan Point people were quite satisfied. However after the collapse they were considered unsafe so they demolished all of them in that area. It may have been the fault of jerry building or faulty planning using gas they have never seen as the answer to overpopulation since.
To stop the desecration of our green fields we should take another look.
Sorry. Am I missing something? Where does it say "per day"?
It says there are rumours that permission will be given for 3000 living units.
What are you talking about 3000 a day?
They propose to buid 3000 settlements , that's all that was said. ?

You are quite right where does it say '3,000 homes a day', except in my headline?

I don't know where I got that from, I can only suggest that the Daily Mail may have updated their site since I posted my question.

I sincerely apologise for any confusion caused.
