Most of these "experts" seem to say the UK is needed in the EU to slow down "protectionism" , ie Socialism, therefore , if we left the EU on friendly terms and maintained trade agreements etc, then do you think the Germans would follow suit rather than pay for the rest of the EU indulgences, eg the CAP, and Greek./Italian/Spanish public sector Largesse?

Hardly - The EU has played a major role in standing up for the likes of you and I in the face of big business interests.

Cheap airlines came from EU legislation - Freddy Laker was driven out from creating the Skytrain but the cheap airlines can now get the slots.

The EU forced car manufacturers to let people get their cars serviced at cheaper garages and stopped the main dealers invalidating their warranties if they didn't get them serviced through them.

They've recently clamped down on extortionate international roaming charges on mobile phones

the list goes on and on - this is why a number of big business iterests like Murdoch and David Desmond laothe the EU and do all they can in their newspapers to try and do them in.

By the way I love the phrase "If we left on friendly grounds and maintained trade agreements etc".

I must try that at my Gym - can I leave on friendly terms and still use the equipment?

Equipment?? Are you saying that the EU would not sell us their produce unless we're a member?
Jake, as I have pointed out before, Do you really think the EU woudl not want trade agreements with a country that imports more from it that is exported? If they are tht petty then it wold show what they are really like.

You do have some good points about the EU, of course it is not all bad. Bu it is at a great cost to the UK and any UK govenment could have introduced things if they really wanted. What you have failed to point out in your consumer product rant is that business is so wrapped up in red tape that the companies have to charge more for their products than they need to.

Yes, RG, I reckon the Germans woudl follow. They are pretty fed up too. And I am sure they would do a deal with us.

Now there's a thing. How about the Germans and us getting into bed together and ruling the World. S*d the French of course.
RedGrant seems to have left us.
But I think the answer is 'no'.
Hello RG. Or should I say R1G.
They seemed to manage quite well before we joined. In fact because we were falling behind in the world leaque ministers were told to sell the EU to Britons at all costs. When we did join the costs was so high it created havoc with our finances and have been repaying for it ever since.

To leave now would undo any influence in how the EU is run and left alone would again become Little Englanders trying to attach ourselves with the US who have already stated they prefer to deal with Europe not a small island in the North Sea.
yeah right, and once the eu has totally subjugated us and is stripping us of all our resources and funneling them to brussells what will we be then ?

extremely little englanders in what will nothing more than a north western province of the eu superstate.

The eu is desperate to get its hands on financial banking sector because its highly profitable and they want control of it for their own use.

Remember the eu despises nation states and will do all it can to destroy them
