Seriously, it isn't that he's silent but rather many don't care to listen. I discussed his direct intervention in our affairs here.

There is always silence if there is no one there . How could it be otherwise. ?
Simplest answer would be that the meaning of gods silence is that they are not there.

Be thankful - going around telling people you are hearing voices is a very swift way of alienating people :)

"If God wants something from me, he would tell me. He wouldn't leave someone else to do this, as if an infinite being were short on time. And he would certainly not leave fallible, sinful humans to deliver an endless plethora of confused and contradictory messages."

How do you know God is silent? He might not be to other people. You might be listening on the wrong wavelength.
...and He might not reply to you directly, blessed, it might be in other ways.
God is, allegedly, omnipotent, omniscient, infinite. Able and willing to listen to intercessory prayer. Able and willing to interceded in human affairs, perform miracles, suspend or subvert the laws of physics.

And you think that the millions of individuals, millions of the faithful who cry out for guidance from their god, but never get it - its their fault because they are listening on the wrong wavelength?

Your god, so all powerful, so all-knowing, cannot be bothered to change the broadcast frequency? He was unable to design his creations in such a way that they were unable to hear his words?

So, boxtops, nice soundbite - terrible, logic.
I’ll leave Goodlife wallowing happily in prophecies of impending doom.

If those other people claim to hear him, how do they know it’s him - and why would anyone believe them? Just a thought.
lazy - :-) - just a suggestion, not a fact. Each to their own.

Given that the meaning of life, the universe and everything is 42, and that god's silence must constitute a pretty significant part of that, I'd say about 29, give or take.

The religious listen to the static and think they can hear God.

Humans have a very strong pattern recognition system. It is why we can see animals in clouds or Mother Theresa in a bun.
It means that however much you pray to god you won't get an audible reply. You will have to look at chicken entrails for a definitive answer. ( gods way of saying 'this chicken is dead')
He may just be out at the shops for a while. Christmas is coming you know.
