Why not also sack the MPs and invite them back in a reservist capacity?

After all they only work part time as it is.

There was talk of sacking 50 MPs some time ago. It seems that idea has been pushed into the long grass because the Liberals objected to it. It seems the Tories can get out of commitments by blaming htem.
pdq, it is the liberals fault, they were the ones throwing the toys out the pram and stomping their little feet. How on earth do you manage to twist this back to the Tories?

AOG, seems a good idea to me.
/// Recruits would expect to serve a six-month tour of duty at least once every five months///

Good trick if you can do it!
I've had my Yomp across a distant Isle thanks, it's someone elses' turn now.
Personally, no thanks, been on that island, and Big beach, etc....

Then again at my age - no chance.....

Recruits would expect to serve a six-month tour of duty at least once every five months. interesting timeline though..... Maths not a great skill for this journo??
The point about having Armed Forces is to defend our territories against aggressive action, and force projection in other parts of our globe in defence of our strategic political interests.

Most military actions now are taken in concert with other nations, as part of a NATO or UN sponsored mission.

Given those changing world circumstances, given the pressing need for resources for health, social services, infrastructure spending, education - the military have to cut their expenditure. If making greater use of military reservists, which incidentally bring us more into line with the US and the National Guard, then that seems perfectly fine to me, especially if such measures reduce the overall size of our defence budget.
How do you manage to twist this back on the Tories?

The Tory party renaged on it's coalition commitment to reform the House of Lords

In retalliation the Liberals withdrew support for the boundary changes.

That's how
