TWR checking the daily papers only reveals that the UK homicide rate is very low, and the number for murders as a percentage of population declining overall. We had, I believe, 550 criminal homicides (viz. murder, manslaughter and infanticide) recorded in the last year's figures.This compares favourably with other countries.And only 51 of all killings, including, it seems, suicides, were by firearm. But murders do get reported in the papers disproportionately to their number because they are both serious and unusual.
