My husband and myself worked in London and have London accents.
Our son and daughter went to Birmingham University and obtained employment in Birmingham so we decided to retire in Birmingham.
We have been in Birmingham for 18 months and pay our way using our pensions paid from London often using London bank cards and cheques.
On 3 occasions we have had people complain we should not retire in Birmingham as we have never contributed to Birmingham.
If this is right why were we allowed to buy a bungalow in Birmingham using some of the proceeds from our London home sale and why have people been willing to take our London pension money in payment for goods and services.

Strange.
This may be one for bednobs
relocate back to London outskirts you will feel more at home, no one gives a damn down here who you are or where you come from.
This thread reminds me of a previous one. Have you posted before, London998?
Is a London pension more than a Birmingham one? If so the locals may resent your affluence?
Move next door to TV presenter Adrian Chiles and accuse him of being Benny Hill's lovechild....that'll get up their snozzle :0)

No idea, never heard of this before.
Yogi, That clown Adrian Chiles is not a Brummie, he comes from Oldbury ( It's a dump ).
^^^^^ yogi, that's assuming there's a house for sale next to Adrian Chiles.........but come to think of it, there would be wouldn't there?
I think you are talking rubbish!

I am from the midlands and they are accepting of people from anywhere in the world. Birmingham has a huge immigrant population.

If they are not accepting you it is possibly because you walk around with a superior attitude. You are no better that the locals just because you hail from London.
Well, some people are unhappy in their lives and will take that out on anybody on any excuse. Most Brummies are friendly.
You are contributing to Birmingham's finances, if you have a home there. You pay Council Tax, you use local businesses and services, employ local people directly or indirectly. What's more, it's certain that you've been doing so in the past since every Council receives money from the government
Where you from, daffy ?
so the population of Birmingham is 3?
I did not realise it had become a ghost town.
Mary, I'm wondering what the circumstances were when these comments were made? Might they have just been trying to wind you up? It just seems a very strange attitude to take.
I'm just surprised you could understand them when they complained.
Sorry London998 you haven't posted this before. I was confusing you with MartinBev58.
Of course it's rubbish, daffy.
tell them you've immigrated in order to disseminate your wealth among the poor.
lol Baldric :0)....how true

I know some great Brummies......I'm originally from London and get on really well with them, so a bit baffled as to the OP's problem.
It's a wind up thread, only registered today, and hasn't come back.
I'm from Leicester originally tonyav, I now live on the Fylde coast. I did live in Sutton Coldfield for 4 years when I was little (in a children's home called 'Princess Alice')
