Do you agree with schools closing at 8.00pm?

If this comes about as it already has apparently in Mossbourne Academy in Hackney, London, isn't this going to disturb some parents soap watching, when they have to turn out to pick their off-springs up?

/// State spending on childcare is already among the highest in the world. By 2014, the Coalition will have increased investment by more than £1billion a year. ///

It is a pity that they do not spend some of this money on Elderly care, and let those who decide to have children look after them, instead of parcelling them off on others to look after.

If any parent can afford to have their child stay at school until 8pm, believe you me, they won't be at home watching soaps! They'll still be at work, making the dosh that will be needed in order to pay the astronomical fees this will entail.
Currently childcare is aimed at the 9-5 workers. Not everyone works 9-5.

I'm sure many parents would rather stay home and look after their family. It's not an option for most. The cost of housing alone forces both parents out to work.
Agree with ummmm, It's a 24 - 7 world now.
Please don't call it 'investment'. That was a typical Gordon Brown trick when trying to justify ever increasing public spending. It's not investment, it's just spending.

What about the staff at school, who looks after their children? If your going to "invest" haha, in chidcare, nurserys would be the way to go.

I would point out that my daughter had a job, her and her partner who also works needed a child minder for 3 days a week at a cost of £80, they couldn't get on the council so went private. Before they did they asked the council about housing benefit, she was told no problem by 4 people. They signed the contract and then was told that she was entitled to £7 so after working out it was costing rthem £30 a week for her to go to work, she quit.

Tory back to work policy in action.
