I don't think the decision not to investigate Jeremy Hunt was a Government issue but rather a "Cameron" issue!

However one good point I heard made was that if the accusation is that he should be investigated for not being neutral then Vince Cable should similarly be investigated
Cable's already been punished by losing his job, so (a) it would seem a bit pointless and (b) if Hunt got the same punishment, I wouldn't mind.
More to the point - if the BSkyB decision was removed from Vince Cable because of his alleged bias against NI, based upon his "go to war" comments, Then why was the decision given to Hunt, someone who had publicly endorsed the bid?

There is little doubt that Hunt misled the House about his communications with NI during the process and he must surely be held responsible for the inappropriate actions of his SPAD.

The difficulty would be in proving the he deliberately misled the House, rather than "inadvertently", a lovely weasel word get out clause. Personally, I believe he lied, but very difficult to prove intent.
My money is on JH being given the boot when thing have quietened down a bit as DC can't afford to be seen to do a U turn at present.
Was it Churchill who said that a politician stands for election, takes his seat and then lies?

Any MP with a pulse would have an opinion on the BSkyB bid, and it is disingenuous of the opposition to say that he was wrong to have an opinion.

The whole thing is a predictable and pointless game of yah boo at a time when parliamentary time could be far better used.
I think Jeremy will be given the push before long. And Baroness Warsi??
@venator - Its double standards. Vince Cable publicly states his opposition to the bid, and the process is removed from his purview on the basis of alleged bias. Why then give it to Hunt, who had publicly expressed his support for the bid?

If you remove one for alleged bias, you should not then award the decision making process to someone who is equally biased.

He is a minister. He misled the house. He is responsible for the overly close relationship between his SPAD and NI. To attempt to claim he did nothing wrong, or that we should tolerate such behaviour because thats the way politics works is a council of despair and disingenous.
Cameron is playing a very dangerous.

He had Cable removed after he was pressured by the Murdochs. That shows weakness. He then replaces Cable not with someone who is not squeaky clean but with someone he knew was not impartial and was known to favour the Murdochs and have a very close relationship with them. That shows either contempt, arrogance or again weakness. To keep a nobody like Hunt in post who most people now think has lied, is dangerous for the Government because people will believe they are a bunch of liars, mud sticks.
