Why has it taken so long for this type of action against these pirates to be implemented?

th hardware exists...put it to use. How much is spent on ransom money to these pirates, or damage they cause to other shipping in the area
Novice explained...!

Either way....billions and multimillion?? Do you write for the Daily Mail?
Yes, yes I do, do you really know anything about in depth military operations or do you just like to chime in with weak posts just to make up the numbers?
no they are in operations, and this would be another use for their fire power. The Russian security service set fire to one pirate boat with the men shackled to the handrails. So not sure if they have had any of their ships hijacked since that time. Perhaps some don't get that piracy is very big business. It's not just a little skiff with 6 blokes on board, and with more money involved they can afford the faster boats and bigger and better weaponry.
quarky...read the posts by TheNovice...
Does he talk for you? I've read and reread his post , do you have anything to add to that? I'd like to hear your opinion, I really do.
this is the more modern face of piracy, not friendly jack sparrow and his motley crew.

Em10, the pirates have ramshackleboats, and ak,s machetete's and rpg's, nothing compared to what's on fully loaded warcopter.
The problem is red tape and rules by governement officials who are usually a long way off and safe, had these same officials needed to use these ships to cross, or the cargo ships were part of their livelyhood, I think we'd see completely different tactics used entirely.

And are you actually on-site in the thick of it, typing away on your laptop?
Anothelodgit, no but I have been several times with the rm on operations.
Rm=Royal Marines in case you're scratching your head.
these modern pirates are well armed, can use just a handful of men to board a ship, as they seem to do with impunity. Their boats are not all ramshackle, many are very light and fast, the sort that drug runners have been using for years. It should be stamped out.
My point being, quarky, that this operation would not have cost billions and multimillions.

The equipment already owned might have done...
Em10 I have been of the south west coast and asia and have seen pirates boats, I have also been in operations in South America and I can assure you that the billionaire drug barons funding for their mules boats are palaces compared to the Sw African and Asian pirates cheap bits of wood with several cheap outboard motors stuck on the end.

What has their vessels to do with it? Even if they go about in Pedalos, they have created so much murderous havoc and suffering, that they need to be got rid of.

By the way Somalia is on the Horn of Africa which is on the East side of Africa, not South West Africa or even Asia.

doesn't stop them boarding these ships and holding the people hostage though.
Good as a first step. Now we need an invasion of Somalia to release all the hostages and ships.
