If I changed my will to leave everything I own to an animal sanctuary. I'm thinking of an owl haven, if there is such a thing. Could my voracious relatives have any grounds to contest it?

Yes! They could say you were not of sound mind.

Could they use my posts here in AB to try and prove their claim?
Just my honest opinion but to leave everything to an owl sanctuary thus bypassing relatives and the hundreds of really needy causes is probably proof enough that a person to put it kindly weren't quite thinking clearly when the will was made.....as I said JMHO.
That may be your view commoner but it is not the view of the law...sandy are you aving a larf?

There are loads more
Wonderful idea.... always in favour of annoying the rels,,,
I would quite happily leave everything to an animal sanctuary if I had no deserving relatives and I consider myself of sound mind. It would be up to me if I left it to a charity. I think it is dreadful that people think they have a right to inherit anything whatsoever.
I already have that in my will if my current benficiaries pre decease me it all goes to cats protection... but as Redman and I love owls when I get a new one done after the wedding I might put an owl sanctuary as well
Of course it's not the view of the law...didn't I say IMHO?

And just one thing Sandy....Owls even the pretty little Barn owls are voracious predators which hunt and swallw whole, little furry and feathery things which are just going about their business......can't get more voracious than that ;=)
But most owls are endangered unlikethe myriad small furry creatures who they control as an apex predator They kill to live not for pleasure

Anything animal seems a more worthy cause than help the humans we have too many of those already..
Rowan, likewise my will names an animal sanctuary should my beneficiaries predecease me.
Its a way of repaying the animals for the pleasure they give...
I support a local Hawk and Owl trust sanctuary now, so can't see why they shouldn't benefit after my death.
I suppose it would be nice to leave money to someone to raise mice, frogs and other birds for owls to feed on.
and...a popular charity had their luncheon at a venue @ £6k
I like the humour of the chap who left everything to his wife on condition that she remarried after his death "so at least one man will regret my passing". lol
But owls don't just hunt little mice and insects.....the larger ones actually take other endangered species ..birds for example including hawks ducks etc etc..

I have nothing against owls per se ...just believe there are better causes than leaving all my worldly goods to 'em......
i own an owl sanctuary
its murphs all you can eat snack bar
she likes the little fat ones the best
I was going to leave everything to my daughter, but decided to cut out the middle man and leave it all to Stella Artois.
