It's getting more serious that first thought, thank goodness the police are weeding these perverts out.

There has always be perverts the only reason there appears to be more of them is because of this type of media and people are more willing to talk about it!
FGT, are you suggesting we ignore it?
Not at all I was responding to AOG's comment of it is getting more serious than he first thought!

However,I am wondering if AOG knows that a 'typical' paedophile is white male and middle aged?
Perhaps it is getting more serious than he first thought. It's certainly serious. The category into which the 'typical' paedophile falls is irrelevant.

/// people are more willing to talk about it! ///

You may have a point there, since in the last few years there have been about five or more similar other cases, but it seems that only this recent one has attracted such extreme coverage.

Why can this be so?
AOG

Can you expand on 'more serious than we first thought'?

Up until now, did you think this was trivial???

The only way this could be 'more serious' would be if detectives that the gang had murdered a number of girls as well...
Because AOG the press like to jump all over any wrong doing by a person of colour
I think by "more serious", AOG was referring to the fact that more people are involved than first thought.
This was intimated after the first set of convictions.
It is strange how some similar stories are treated differently by the press and some commentators. It is most welcome that if there are others who are guilty in Rochdale then they should be caught. But the news is seized upon with such glee by some.

In contrast a serving Police Officer who has been found guilty of grooming a 15 year old girl, does not even get a mention in the Mail or any posts about his crimes on AB.

I'd have thought a story about a police officer, someone in a position of trust, grooming a child would be newsworthy, but I guess it is missing something the Rochdale cases have.
hmmmmm Gromit and I wonder why? Could it be cause the ex police officer fits my earlier profile?
Gromit, AOG's link is to the Telegraph.

FGT, since the perpetrators are not white, would you rather this case hadn't been reported?
going on todays paper, not only been going on a long time, but in many of these current cases the girls have been in long term care. They abscond time and again, where the workers looking after them don't seem to in effect. Not informing the police when one goes missing, how does that work!
A parent would be frantic after a few hours, maybe a day if a child went missing. So something is wrong with the system itself. These vulnerable young girls then go looking for the very thing that will do them the most harm, in the very sad belief that their pimps actually care about them.
not at all naomi and never have I said that
FGT, in that case, I'm pleased to hear it.
The problem with this story and indeed Muslim men grooms white girls for sex[i is that in the long run, people (for example the BNP) will use it for their own agendas.

Little thought will be given to the victims, and no-one will question why a 15 year old girl will repeatedly return to have sexual intercourse with men in their 30s, 40s and 50s.

I get the impression that there is barely contained glee amongst some commentators because this is a [i]superb] bit of ammunition to fire at Britain's Muslim community.

However, we should be cautious of travelling down that road, because if we were to criticise the Muslim community for this, then by rights we should judge all white males against the increasingly frequent stories we read about horrifying paedophilia (I'm thinking of the like who persuaded the nursery school assistant to abuse children, then send pictures).

Every once in a while, a new white paedophile ring (and they tend to go for the 'younger end of the market') will be exposed and the members jailed...however, when we read those stories we don't say "there's a problem in he white community - something must be done")

I think we should accord the Muslim community the same leeway.

However - I suspect that the last few drops of juice haven't yet been wrung oUt of this story.

It still 'has legs'.

That loud metallic sound is you hitting the nail on the head.

There is something very wrong with the system where young girls can return to the men who abuse them time and time again.

Not right.
sp, a metaphorical rocket needs to be fired at certain sections of the Muslim community. Many of the elders patently ignore what is going on in their own communities. If i could find it there was a very good article, yes i know the Daily Mail again, by a young Asian guy, who says exactly that. He has spoken out where many do not. These elders do themselves no favours by burying their heads in the sand, as people then take it into their heads that all Muslims are like that, which of course is patent nonsense. If more Muslims spoke out about it, and actually had a hand in catching these vile men, then you would see less of the stupid BNP, EDL brigade shouting the odds, because they would have no ammunition with wish to hang their stupid ideologies on. I hope that makes enough sense.
There have been several Muslim elders and community leads speaking out of TV since the first convictions, saying that the fact that many Muslim guys think that white girls are easy trash is something they have to address with their young menfolk before these perceptions are entrenched.

The reason the girls returned to these guys are because they are often in fear, and many of the girls in that first case were already known to Social Services.
SP, //however, when we read those stories we don't say "there's a problem in he white community - something must be done"//

This is the second such incident in the same area within a very short space of time. I think it’s fair to say that community has a problem and something must be done.
.. and PS, I would feel the same whoever the perpetrators were - it's a vile trade.
