Slightly, even.....
Many people perform feats that carry an element of risk for charity.
I think you may have been mislead by description of the craft as a pedallo.
If you take a look at their website, the details of the craft, the safety equipment and precautions, you might take a slightly different view.

I don't feel mislead at all but after 2 attempts totalling 57 miles of a 3,000 mile crossing they might be better channelling their efforts elsewhere i.e. crossing the North Sea or similar distance, that's all.

Should they get into difficulty a lot further out the cost of rescuing them will far outweigh the money raised for charity.

From the link you provided rojash:

The rescue on Thursday cost €1,400.00 which was obviously un-budgeted if anyone can assist us with this can you please contact Kieran on 07762 *****
gotta love a trier.

"Inspiring the challenging endurance expedition is the tragic death of baby Lydia Rose Sayle.

Lydia, 18 months old, lost a brave battle for life shortly before last Christmas, after a heart transplant six months earlier.

Kieran said: “Lydia’s parents, Gary and Heather, are good friends. Everything they went through is the only motivation we need for this challenge, along with the tremendous support they received from nurses and doctors.”"

Update:

Looks like they've seen sense after a third attempt. As I sad, hopefully they'll be as successful with something a bit more within their limits.

Best of luck to them.
