wolf63, you may (or may not) be interested to know that back when Pepsi Max was first developed it was aimed at a male market given it's slightly spicier, sharper flavour versus the girlie Diet Pepsi. This information was passed to us by senior promotions operatives from Pepsi at an otherwise boring sales meeting in a nice wee country club.
Clearly you don't know what you like as marketing teams are NEVER wrong. :)
i always preferred so called boys toys, and my siblings had plenty, so i generally played with toy cars,, guns, dressed in their cowboy outfits, as well as played with my teddy bears, and dolls, who cares, it was fun whilst it lasted. We all grow up too soon as it is.
What next? Some will be complaining that women have to go upstairs
in M & S, while the men's department is on ground level.

Parents know what their child is interested in, regardless of their gender.

Therefore if one knows that their little girl enjoys playing with boy's toys, then one heads straight for the boy's toy department.

Where's the confusion?
My boy and girl act very stereotypically - my daughter likes anything that is pink, plastic and has Barbie in the title and my boy loves anything with wheels.

Millie Tant is, clearly, alive and well.
Sooooo........few of you bothered reading to the final paragraph, then?
AOG, women are more likely to have children (possibly in prams) with them when shopping so I think we are entitled to complain if the ladies (or children's) department is upstairs, especially if there is no lift.
I read the last paragraph jth, it makes no difference to my answers.
Because having separate sections is telling the child that what they like to play with is for the opposite gender.
Not you, daffy, the 'it's PC run mad' correspondents...
either way, its a good (and timely) advert for hamleys.
My sons bedroom was Polly Pocket heaven....

I don't do social media, don't twitter, never post on facebook or upload to YouTube, but it is amazing how many stories in the papers these days seem to originate from those sources. This story came from here tweeting her surprise at her "victory". Likewise, there are all those videos of racists on public transport. (particularly like todays, the drunken yobette being thrown off the bus http://www.dailymail....-falls-flat-back.html
Re: final paragraph - Hamleys are hardly likely to say they bowed to the pressure are they.
and the Scottish non-payer being evicted from a train, also a YouTube hit

As a male I'm often seen hanging around lingerie depts.

I would think that most large stores these days do have lifts, in fact I believe they are compulsory for disable access.
gosh, it makes the claire swire incident seem positivley made up.
We used to shop in Hamleys a lot and never found the signage confusing- nor did my little girl regale herself in pink glitter, or my boys feel under any pressure to only buy guns etc- in fatc my eldest son is the campest thing on the planert and my little girl could take over the world before tea time. I think this was an unecessary battle by a self important person who if she wants to help the world and women become less stereotyped ought to do something genuinely constructive and not worry herself about how a toy store arranges it's floors. Either that or she could get back in the kitchen where she belongs;-) *Ducks*
I think many of the "PC gone mad" comments were a little 'tongue in cheek'. I'm more of the, "what a trivial thing to get hot under the collar about", opinion, myself. There are pros and cons to splitting or merging, really was there a news story in it ? Must be a slow week at the press office.
And yes AOG. Why is the massive area for woman's clothing stuff right inside the door on the ground floor, whilst the rest of us have to look for the couple of short rows on the top floor ? Shows who holds all the cash.
