// Nearly 200 members of the far-right English Defence League were arrested in central London yesterday after police discovered that they planned to attack the protesters occupying St Paul’s Cathedral.

The group of 172 were held inside the Red Lion pub near the Cenotaph in Whitehall after detectives discovered intelligence that they planned to head to the London Stock Exchange occupation. //

You would have thought that these patriotic English gentlemen would have had more respect than to plan aggro on a day of remembrance. Do you think this campaign group have been infiltrated by the BNP?

Standing behind safety barriers, protesting, is a bit different to going into a pub, consuming alcohol, abusing the foreign bar staff and throwing stools at the police.
Putting aside my own opinions on the arrests for a second, I find it a little confusing that people can still be saying -exactly- the same thing about 'soft touch' and unequal/preferential treatment toward muslim protestors as if the MAC ban (and the prevention of this year's poppy burning) had never happened. I've always been a little bit sceptical anyway, but this inconsistency rather underlines it. Have I missed something or am I not alone in feeling this?
No, you're not alone.

From the Guardians report

// Scotland Yard said they believed a breach of the peace was about to take place after they got intelligence that the EDL were planning the Armistice Day attack. The law states officers can arrest if they believe the breach of the peace to be "imminent." //
Why Gromit thought it necessary to triplicate this scandalous breach of human rights I just do not know.

What is this country coming to, when a group of 172 people can be arrested and taken to various police stations, not charged and then later released, It was said that they were arrested because they 'MIGHT' cause a breach of the peace.

It has come to a sorry state of affairs when it is possible for the police to arrest anyone, who they think might (only might) commit an offence?

There were rumours banded about (mainly by the Guardian) that they were planning to go on to the St Paul's protesters, but this has not been confirmed by the police.

The reason why they were there was as follows:

/// They had planned to counter-protest against a planned poppy burning by the radical Islamic group Muslims Against Crusades outside the Royal Albert Hall.///

/// But after home secretary Theresa May proscribed the group, making them illegal, the EDL encouraged its members to congregate on Whitehall to observe the two-minute silence.///

Eh?
Hilarious....absolutely hilarious.

Very little has been reported of the planned counter protest by some of the St Paul's protesters, aimed at disrupting London's Lord Mayor's show.

I wonder if the police will arrest all of them in case they might commit a breach of the peace?

Not in the least, in fact the organisers are altering the route so as to accommodate the campers.

Mustn't upset the 'Left' it seems.

/// Minor alterations have been made to the procession’s usual route to make way for the camp at St Paul’s, ///
anotheoldgit, you disagree with the police action against the English Dense League, are the police not meant to prevent crime or would you rather they were only reactive?

I have difficulty in working out how your persecuted world works.

Why would a Conservative led Government and a Conservative London Mayor want to accommodate and not upset the "lefties"? If it wasn't just a figment of your imagination, what would they gain by such uneven treatment?
In AOGworld, the Police are only doing a good job if they are arresting brown people of whom he, personally, disapproves.

Arresting white people with whom he has much sympathy.....is simply 'not on'.

My question was "Do you think this campaign group have been infiltrated by the BNP?"

The other psts did not ask that, so no I have not repeated anyone.
Gromit your headline read "172 EDL members arested near cenotaph"

Which therefore puts the subject matter in line with the previous two questions.

If you meant to ask a separate question, then "Do you think this campaign group have been infiltrated by the BNP?" should have been your headline.
can you have a header with that many words
Are there many 'foreigners' amongst the protesters at St Pauls that would cause the EDL to attack them?
Gromit

/// I have difficulty in working out how your persecuted world works.///

It is I who has difficulty in working out how others persecuted world works, because I have yet to understand why the 'Left' seem to escape persecution, while the 'Right' are persecuted at every opportunity.

And please don't assume that just because the Government is Conservative led, they still support the right wing principals that they once did, if they did, why else would they have allowed the 'Left' to camp outside St Paul's, for so long, would they for example have allowed the EDL to do likewise?

We now unfortunately have a one party state operating in this country, and that is not just me that has become to realise this, it is much believed by many.

While not having any alliance to the EDL, I have every sympathy in what they are protesting about, that being the continuous rise of fundamentalist Islam in Great Britain.

That in no way makes me a racist as some wish to call me, but a patriotic Englishman, who only wishes to see fair play conducted on 'Level Playing Fields'.

What absolute tosh, a typical statement from someone who only assumes such ridiculous accusations, and can not support it with definite proof.

But that is the 'Lefts' way, issue out false allegations etc, and hope some naive individuals will believe them.

Hitler and Goebbels were past masters at this game.
I invoke 'Godwin's Law'......where do I claim my prize!?!?
