Thinking of going to Bristol tomorrow and wondered if anuone had any recommendations of things to do and see (or to avoid). I have looked at the Bristol tourism website but wanted some personal insight.

The docklands area (not sure what it's called) is really interesting with some historic vessels. http://visitbristol.co.uk/

Or Cabot Circus mall for shopping, if the Things can bear it!
Question Author
Hi Box - thought about the docklands and the kids are always up for shopping when dad comes too (he is such a soft touch).
We Will Rock You is on at the Hippodrome. Recomended.*****
Question Author
Sorry Moonraker - should have added that all the kids will be with us and itw a daytime trip (only go out in the dark for trick or treating these days).
Aw Moony, we performed that as an amateur production here a couple of years back, it was fabulous - such a privilege to be involved with talented young people.
The Downes and Suspension Bridge

Cabots Tower

the zoo is a delight

take a walk up Whiteladies Road if you do the bridge

the docklands
Question Author
Love the zoo Mickrog, but thought we'd try something different tomorrow but not really familiar with Bristol although it does look like a lovely place.
I'm going to Bristol tomorrow as well! Going to see the Overtones (for those of you who've heard of them!) . I always enjoy going round the Harbourside -lots of things to do and see- or further along to SS Great Britain. The shopping is good or a ride up to the Clifton Suspension Bridge.
the kids will enjoy the bridge.....take them to the giants cave near the bridge on the downes
Question Author
Dockside, bridge and caves it is then - will let himself know.
hi we live near bristol & my daughter tells me the 'at bristol' hands on interactive science museum in millenium square (near the river/harbourside) is great for children as they really get involved. shopping is great at cabot circus not too far from the centre, walking around the harbourside is good too with lots of nice bars and restaurants with outdoor tables etc especially with the nice weather at the moment, there are river trips as well-the main museum at the top of park street is very interesting too with good natural history and eygptology sections- hope you have a good time
Question Author
Thanks for that old, we go out most Sundays and are running put of new things to do. Youngest two have got slight colds so can't go swimming (the easy option) so I need a plan or himself will suggest the bloody RAF museum again (yawn).
Somebody mention bristols?
Question Author
Bristol not Bristols - sorry for getting you all hot and bothered though.
Ohh, my neck of the woods.

Someone has already mentioned it, but @ Bristol is good, and they've got something for all ages there. They also have an Imax cinema next door. http://www.at-bristol.org.uk/

You can't really go wrong with the Zoo, either. http://www.bristolzoo.org.uk/

The harborside is nice for a little walk, and a nosy at the SS Great Britain. There's also loads of nice little eateries along here, as well as a new Hooters... though probably not very appropriate with young children ;P

I wouldn't really recommend Cabot Circus, unless you just want to spend the day shopping. I think the kids will get bored quite easily, as it literally is just shops... that you could find in most shopping malls.

As already mentioned, Clifton Downs and the suspension bridge are worth a visit. The downs are a great setting for a picnic... when the weather's ok.

If I think of anything else, I shall post!

Have a great day :-)

Cheers Flip - Bristol seems like a nice place so we should find something to do that suits everyone (well, the kids really).
Was just going to mention that Bristol now has an Aquarium, and found this on their website. Looks quite good!

I'm glad you like Bristol Zoo - it's ok, but I will never forget driving for a seemingly infinite length of time through Bristol, following the elephant signs.
And, of course, at the end of it all, there are no elephants :-)
P.S It says May-June on the write up, but it's on again now.

Hope you and the family have a lovely day. Forecast for tomorrow is sun! :-)
Question Author
Thanks Flip - looks a bit pricey for us though (even if we say thing 1 and thing 2 are 'under 3' - sometimes they are 4 for the purposes of going swimming!)
