/// He said: ‘How strange it is that we so often behave – yes, even we who are Christians – as though we cannot survive unless we silence all voices of challenge or criticism.///

That's a good one coming from a Left-Winger such as Dr Rowan Williams.

It appears he would wish to 'silence' the anti-gay protesters in those photographs.

Even so although they have every right to voice their opinions on gays, by such words as "Rowan this is Africa not England" I found the one stating "Homosexuals must die Lev 20 . 13 absolutely disgusting.

"Left-Winger such as Dr Rowan Williams" isn't the philosophy of christianity Love thy neighbour? So not for profit where does the politics come in.

Oh I see he doesn't agree with you so hes another fiendish leftie.
I find Rowan Williams to be a poor representative of the Church Of England.

He profers the appearence and voice of a Tolkien wizard, and encapsulates the lofty other-worldliness of high-office clerics which alienates them from rank and file Anglicans.

Christianity continues to slide as an influence in this country, and given the promotion of individuals like this, it has only itself to blame.

No anybody who knows anything, knows that the Archbishop involves himself very much in politics.

They will also know that he holds very Left-Wing views.

/// He went on to describe a kind of confidence "that saves us from being led by fashion, by the issues of the day: the truth for and about human beings is not something that can be decided simply by the majority vote of our culture". It might be a recipe for withdrawing into an other-wordly piety, "BUT NO ONE WHO KNOWS DR WILLIAMS'S LEFT-WING CREDENTIALS BELIEVES THAT FOR A MINUTE".///
The Church has always been involved in politics, even in days of yore. They do afteral like controlling the masses, it is what all religion is about. ABof C is without doubt a leftie, just look at his views.

andy cont. Would you like to expand on that ? I what way does he differ from rank and file Anglicans ? Do you include yourself in the term rank and file .?
Is it the Bishop of York who has removed his dog collar and won't wear it again until Mugabe is ousted/dead?
Yes chrissa - John Sentamu
Thought so boxtops. I like him.
modeller - my observation about Doctor Williams refers to his apparent intention to appear as something out of a Tolkien novel, and his manner of speech underlines this.

I would class the 'rank and file' Anglicans as those who are people going about their daily lives with a more standard apearence and appearence than that affected by his grace.

I am not a rank and file Anglican - I am an aetheist.
