What a good man and so were all of those he was preaching to

So very often the word Muslim is spoken with a certain amount of mistrust, I think the vast majority are peace loving people who have had to deal with a back-lash over the last decade,
bad apples appear in all societies, ours being a prime axample

//Prayers from all religious faiths were held and an appeal for world peace made.//

Very commendable - but rather than praying to a magic entity in the sky, they would be better advised to take a long hard look at the religions they cling to - and I mean all of them.

something in what you are saying Naomi about religion and its causes, I agree

Good for him, I hope his message gets to those extremists and also to all those who are contemplating acts of terrorism in the future.

Unfortunately rather than sit back quietly while the extremists have tainted not only their name but also their religion, the peaceful Muslims should have took to the streets long ago in open protest at their fellow Muslim's acts of mass murder.

/// He said the voices of the 99% true, peace-loving Muslims have not been heard, they have been drowned out by the clamour and the noise of extremists.///

No I am afraid their voices have not been "drowned out by the clamour and the noise of extremists". the reason their voices have not been heard is because they haven't spoke up.

Precisely. Well said AOG.
The reason their voices are not heard, is because they are so rarely raised in protest at the fundamentalists within their religion. And that goes for all religions, not just Islam.
Yep! Them too, em!
By definition ordinary, decent people don't make a fuss. Whether they be Moslem, Christian, Jew, atheist, agnostic.
They just get on with their lives, rather than wasting their breath and time on adding to the general noise.

well I wish they would raise their voices and opinions, it's such a shame we hear only of the Fundamentalists who believe they speak for their Faith, clearly, they do not
I thought once that religion of whatever persuasion promoted peace, tolerance, love thy enemy, in fact i believe there are a number of quotes from the bible to that effect, i could be wrong, it's be a long while since i read any religious tract. But you don't see or hear that, but intolerance and even hatred of each others faith, beliefs, and that is why i decided long ago, well it wasn't a road to damascus conversion, to cease believing, and trust that being an atheist upsets no one, as i don't, won't take sides.
If we all made a little effort to find out a bit more about Islam, I don't think it would come as such a surprise to us to find that shock, horror, the vast majority of Moslems are not suicide-bomb wirlding jihdists and nor do they support them.
The comments attached to the original question: "So very often the word Muslim is spoken with a certain amount of mistrust, I think the vast majority are peace loving people who have had to deal with a back-lash over the last decade, bad apples appear in all societies, ours being a prime example "
are spot on.
'bad apples appear in all societies, ours being a prime example'
