In the interests of equality, I post two links the first from the Unite Against Fascist's (UAF) web page, and the other from the English Defence League's (EDL) web page.

It is for others to judge which stands out as the most aggressive.

This also makes for interesting reading,

So does this...

Bunch of thugs.
none come out of this with any credibility, stick them all in a field and let them slug it out, and then we can all get on with our lives.
This sums up the EDL

// EDL leader Stephen Lennon addressed the crowd in Aldgate, east London, saying he had defied bail conditions imposed for an earlier football hooliganism offence in order to appear at the rally. //

How quaintly English.

Also...

// There were further disturbances when a coach carrying EDL members broke down in east London and they fought with local youths, after which all the passengers on the coach were arrested, police said. //

Black or white. Young or old. Muslim or Christian. Makes no difference. All extremists are bad for society and should feel the full force of the law. They all make me vomit
From the report in The Metro:

// But EDL supporters threw missiles and were involved in a series of scuffles with police, leading to 16 arrests for affray, assaulting a police officer and drunk and disorderly.

A coach carrying the EDL group then broke down outside Stepney Green tube station, close to a mosque, and a further disturbance broke out.

Passengers from the coach were removed from Tower Hamlets by police, while hundreds of locals gathered outside the mosque in what appeared to be an attempt to ensure it was not attacked. //

gromit the metro paper is very left wing all these chaps are trying to do is help you stop being musilmificationifided

should that be spelt with a double i
lol
what there should be is a proper debate, an open and honest meeting of people who have concerns over immigration, and it's effects on their communities, not mud slinging, just an airing of views, perhaps then you might get people to see all sides of the story. This should involve politicians, and members of the public, if we are going to be a cohesive society, then something needs to be done about the matter now, because whilst i dislike, organisations like EDL, UAF, there are divisions, though some would say not, but this situation isn't going to get any better whilst politicians sit on their hands and do nothing.

What an excellent and sensible post, em10, that is exactly what is needed.

It is the politicians that have created these problems, and it is them that should now be taking measures to rectify them, instead of just imposing bans, curtailing free speech etc, etc.
The police now say there were 60 arrests.

The EDL and their apologists do not know the meaning of Freedom of Speech.
Question Author
While I do not condone violence no matter who committed it, it is interesting to note the blatant one sided news reports.

it was reported that there was 1000 EDL protesters and 1500 counter protesters, out of 2500 there were just 16 arrests.

The reports give the impression that these were solely EDL members, no mention of the troublesome Far-Left groups, which included members of the UAF, Trade Unions, and Muslim groups, who apparently if the news reports are to be believed conducted themselves impeccably.

Incidentally regarding the EDL bus that broke down, the local London radio reported that the bus while it was broke down was attacked by Asian youths who smashed the buses windows with rocks and clubs.

So I figure that contrary to those reports that the passengers were arrested, they were in fact taken into custody by the police for their own protection.

/// The EDL and their apologists do not know the meaning of Freedom of Speech.///

And I suppose their opponents do?

They are the biggest suppressors of free speech ever, one only needs to consider the lack of freedom of speech in communist states.
From the BBC website "When the coach broke down outside the station there was a further disturbance, the Metropolitan Police said, and all the passengers were arrested." (there were forty-four on the bus) are the police being one-sided?

Seems the BBC forgot to state that the bus was attacked and damaged by Asian youths.
How come ALL the passengers were arrested?

As I have already said they were most likely taken off the bus by the police, for their own protection while the bus was towed away and they awaited new transport
The Met Police said they were all arrested. Folk are not arrested to protect them are they??????
Arrested for their own protection?

Now you are just desperate to forgive these thugs.
a few years back football fans a couple of miles from old trafford , the police arrested the whole coach load instead of arresting the guilty ones

some went to court and won damages against the police for wrongful arrest etc
The Met Police must have been busy protecting all those hundreds of rioters a few weeks ago then...
