EDL founder Stephen Lennon guilty over football brawl
// The founder of the English Defence League has been convicted of leading a brawl involving 100 football fans.
Stephen Lennon, 28, led Luton Town supporters and chanted "EDL till I die"" as they clashed with Newport County fans in Luton, a court heard.
He was charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour during the clash on 24 August last year.
He denied the charges but was convicted after a trial on Monday at Luton and South Bedfordshire Magistrates' Court. //

To be fair, this depends on what particular kind of right-winger you are. Like 'left-wing', 'right-wing' is quite a vast umbrella term comprising lots of different kinds of ideologies. There's plenty of libertarians, for instance, in the Tory party, who obviously have no problem with homosexuality. On the other hand you also have social conservatives (some of whom you can find on AB) who do.

the so called peaceful EDL are few and far between if any..... the fb groups/pages are full of hate filled conversations by supporters and members of the EDL .... if they were 'peacefully protesting' as their pages/groups claim surely they would remove these remarks...but they dont.... i havent got links as theres so many of them, all anyone have to do is go to fb and see for themselves. Or look here .... of course this is only one persons view... but believe me there are plenty of others exactly the same all over the internet....

It does not mean the EDL are peaceful and non-violent, it just means they will not openly encourage it. Rather like Roman Catholic Priests refusing to sanction child molestation, but actively doing it themselves.

I'd be interested to see what percentage of EDL members are football hooligans, from my experience, it'd be pretty high!
I suppose the rationale behind it all is very similar, considering yourself active defenders of "your clan" and you want to preserve the value to which you so strongly associate yourself... that teamed with a tendency for fighting, a few others to look hard in front of, and a few stella's and off it goes!
