With respect...............
I have just read most of the posts about Amy Winehouse. I shall miss her voice and the person she was, yes, even with her demons.
Most of all I feel so sad for her parents, they had tried so hard to bring her back from the edge, I guess she didn't want to listen oh Amy, Amy Amy!
I do realise that there are many parents who for many reasons (illness, war et al) that do have to say goodbye to their children but in the great scheme of things this is surely the wrong way round.
So to Amy's parents, the 23rd psalm:
Mizmor l'David.
Adonoy ro-i, lo echsar. Bin-ot desheh yarbitzayni,
al may m'nuchot y'nahalayni. Nafshi y'shovayv,
yanchayni v'ma-g'lay tzedek l'ma-an sh'mo.

SOTORIOS - I perceive that you come from a section of society where drug use and abuse if not a problem. If so, lucky you. You are fortunate enough, by an accident of birth, to have landed in a family who have taught you good values and to respect yourself and others around you.
Sadly, others are not so lucky. They do not possess the guidance and family framework you have had, so they live miserable unfulfilled tragic lives which are a world away from the lifestle you enjoy.
For such people, drugs are a means to blot out a nasty and fruitless reality, a way to escape briefly into a world that doesn't hurt, and doesn't stretch on into a miserable painful infinity. Of course, this path leads to addicition, and often death, but no-one in this situation is able to look ahead and see a future of any sort, they are aimply not equipped to think like that. Life is a day-to-day monotony to be endured and escapred from, if and when possible.
So look around you. Be grateful for who you are and where you are. be grateful that the accident of birth didn't lad you in circumatnces where sticking needles in yourself provides an attractive alternative to your daily life.
And when you've done that, and seriously appreciated your life - spare a thought for those less fortunate, and less able than you are, and find some compassion. Life is not black and white.

I know that the moral high ground is a crowded place, but sometimes people's good fortune needs to be underlined for them. We all take for granted how lucky we are. By definition - as communicators on here, we have access to the internet, and the language and skills to use it - which puts us a world ahead of millions of others.

Amy Winehouse hardly made drugs look glam.....
I have been sickened by the nasty, horrible, comments I've read on both here, and FaceBook....
A 27 year old woman, who had an eating disorder and was self harming, long before she got into drugs....clearly had mental health issues....and people are calling her scum!! Shame on them....

People are very quck to condemn, which is sad and pointless.
I have always said that i think AW was a perfect anti-drugs story - only compounded by her tragic and untimely death.
As I have opined elsewhere, I believe that this attitude hangover from the 1960's that pop stars somehow encourage their fans to drink and take drugs is an utter nonsense, and has no place in a modern society.
However, it does persist, and no doubt the chattering classes will be tutting into their capucinos for some time to come.

It's like I replied to someone on FB....You who condemn spend your Saturday nights snorting coke in pub toilets. At least she could afford her habit!!
It angered me more because I was with my cousin when the news broke. At that point they said they suspected drug/alcohol abuse. My cousins Mum committed suicide when she was 12...drugs and alcohol. Her reaction to the negative things said, like Amy Winehouse deserved it, really really upset her.
So so sad....

Something in human nature makes some people want to react to deaths like this with a neagtive 'deserved it' approach, as though it in some way makes them feel better.
I have just had a similar conversation with a colleague, who wonders why I feel sorry that a famous pop star has died of drugs. i confirmed that i feel equally sorry for anyone who dies from drugs, famous or not - because it's a terrible death, following a terrible life, and no-one 'deserves' either.

people forget when she was onstage at Birmingham NIA, drunk, threatening the crowd before stumbling off. Did the crowd get a refund?
Or what about when she got off stage and assaulted an audience member?
I'm surprised she lasted as long as she did but hey her appalling behaviour was okay because she had low self esteem

Sorry but everyones entitled to their opinion sandyroe and and you have to understand just because you have compassion or like a certain celebrity, not everyone else has to or will not have the same way of thinking. personally i like to see comments balanced from both sides and not just the harmonious fluffy side.
No it's not ok JimmyCooper - but no-one is excusing bad behaviour, just exchanging views on the sadness of a young and unhappy life cut short.
Don't worry, I am sure that when you die, you won't have strangers making snide observations about the way you lived your life, and the mistakes you made, because, at such a time, we all deserve better.
