Does anyone else find it grimly ironic that an organic vegetable farm was the source of the recent e-coli outbreak ?

LOL.....maybe....maybe.....I have never been "big" on organic food........never really understood what it meant..;-)

Supposed to be the healthiest food-source according to its proponents. Hence the irony...

Has it been definitely confirmed, now ?

LOL Trime - if it's a choice between human excrement and a chemical fertilizer I think I'll take my chances with the fertilizer.

JTH, latest reports say yes.

"It's the bean sprouts," said Reinhard Burger, head of Germany's centre for disease control.
Trimeresurus.......and can also be fed with sewerage? and the farmers can charge more?

That was the point of samak's post.........I think.
Is that an organic Burger ?

I knew that the bean-sprouts had been blamed (like the cucumbers) but hadn't realised that it was pretty much confirmed as the source of the outbreak.
The source hasn't been (bean) confirmed and in my opinion .....never will be.

Apparently they have now tested some packed sprouts from this farm which were found to be contaminated.
samak...:-)....OK.
I presume that the 'human excrement' comes from organic humans who have lived solely on a diet of organic food for at least 3 years and have not been treated with any 'chemicals' such as vitamins, antibiotics, or drugs.
jomifl..:-)
errm.. Each year there are reports of various contaminations of food sources, usually non-organic, often linked to industrial-type production and factory farming. How come, when there is only this one (so far unproven) link to organic food, is everyone saying "bound to happen", "ironic", "obvious", "Inevitable"?
Question Author
A bit more info: the last news report I saw said that the authorities traced it back from the people who were ill to restaurants they had eaten in, all of which sourced their sprouts from this farm (if they didn't eat them at home, I suppose).
rojash....good point......but organic foods have been portrayed as the "answer to our health problems"...............!! Is there a chink in the armour?

However your point is well taken.
Question Author
Rojash,
The irony comes from an industry which portrays itself as the healthy option that everyone should follow. The fact that this outbreak occurred is ironic.
