if we just crated up Qatada and his family and just shipped them out to jordan.

I mean, seriously what could anybody actually do about it ?

If we just gave the ECHR the middle digit what can they do, I've got a relatively quite day so i've been trawling around the web and from what i can tell, there would appear to be sweet FA.

Germans and French and no doubt others seem to do what they want for their countries and ignore all sorts of EU & ECHR dictats and rulings, so why dont we ?

Is it as I suspect our politicians of all persuasions just dont have the bowlocks to do it or what ? there must be a some underlying reason.

Or perhaps they dont want to upset any apple carts so that when their time in politics here finishes they can then go and put their nose in the EU trough.

Seriously what is going on ?

We're a fair-minded people, and proud of it. (And we know the Court of Appeal will chuck this man out!) What's wrong in the instant case, and that of Hamza, is that we haven't got a mechanism which gives a quick and final result.
And in which cases have Germany and France, defied diktats in such matters, or at all?
The trouble is that all our politicians are 'filleted' before taking office.

"We're a fair-minded people, and proud of it."

and that is why we are in the state we are in, thats why these organisations can walk all over us because we wont stand up and just say "no, our security and interests takes precedent over your opinions and laws/rules"
Nothing - SAIC is a UK court not a European one

However if we pretend there was a problem with the EUCHR

I guess that they could be sued for compensation - possibly personally

That could be ignored as well.

The government would then be fprced to admit it was ignoring the rule of law and imposing it's own will regardless of law.

This would bring about censure from other nations and we'd find it impossible to negotiate other international treaties if there was the suspicion that we don't honor them when it becomes inconvenient.

The European convention on Human Rights allows the facility for certain human rights to be suspended.

But there must be a public emergency threatening the life of the nation - I don't think that counts when you just want to extradite someone you don't like do you?
Abolish SIAC and take away any appeal against deportation from the courts. If the government of the day determine that the presence of an alien in UK presents such a threat to our safety that their removal from the country is in our nations best interest then just do it. It is no business of europe or indeed liberal left wing judges to second guess the security service or the home office.

er, yes it is, that is precisely what judges are there for, to stop the government breaking the law.
Except that some, particularly pinko judges think they are the law. and that too is wrong as they take a really perverse view of it, totally ignoring the 'spirit of it'

Of course these very judges are probably in league with the pond dwelling scum sucking up zillions from the public purse as legal aid.

Sure, sure, there's a lot of evidence for this... isn't there?
"The trouble is that all our politicians are 'filleted' before taking office."

That is an excellent phrase AOG. Thank you.
When the Italians went against a EU court decision and deported 2 terrorists they got a slap on the wrist and a small insignificant fine.
Someone should have the guts and do something similar

according to the radio today they said he entered here on a false passport, why was he allowed in ? They then said his real name was ?, how do they know that?
Sky chanels show programmes about border controls, where are ours?
So many unanswered questions.
Just put him and family on the first flight out of here and let the get rich quick lawyers cry about their loss of the golden calf later.
We are told it is inhumane to send him to a country that practices torture. But what about the mental torture Qatada and his family have been suffering for the past 10 years not knowing if he will be deported; having to stick to to a curfew; no internet access and abuse from the press.

Some would say 'tough luck' but at least if he was deported he could return to his natural home where relatives live and there is no threat of execution if found guilty.
jno - the government make the law !! Simple !! Legislate to enable the deportation of scum like this without the assistance of the european "court" - depart from the assistance of the SIAC which would be no more and our problems disposing of foreign hatred spewing scum would be no more.
i'm sure an "accident" could be arranged by the men in black

but they based their decision on laws from ECHR according to the judges statement
Which was largely drafted by a British Civil servant working for Winston Churchill.

If you don't like the European convention of Human rights I suggest you blame him.

The point is that a government that ignores the law and makes it up as it goes along or revokes a law to specifically prosecute a particular person they don't like is about as good a definition of a dictatorship as I can think of.

If you start down that road you end up throwing in gaol other people you don't like.

Given there was a thread here today where some people were arguing that Britain could never have succumed to a dictator like Hitler it's worth thinking about exactly how tempting a "strong man" at the helm is and what happens.

If Hitler's too emotive think Franco

"Let me rid you of these Muslim clerics, Pinkos, Trade unionists, Jews"

You really want to trust politicians with that sort of power?
I am still laughing at the idea that SIAC is staffed by "liberal lefty" judges.
how I wish we had some strong politicians and judges who wont kowtow to europe all the time

Why cant you just stick to the point and the case in question.

we are talking about a person who is judged to be a serious terrorist threat to the people of this country and a judgement that was based on ECHR, as it is today, nothing to do with Hitler Churchill, Superman. The Incredible hulk or anybody else.

In this instance I would be happier knowing hes removed from the gene pool and I couldnt care less who/ or how it was done.

but you would rather we lock him up so we can keep an eye on him
