No booklet just a large white card, so what is it ? Just read the thread in S & C and still none the wiser
Yes it's the AV vote, same day as the local elections. There have been quite a few threads about the vote already!
Question Author
I had no idea there was anything going on, is there a lkink anywhere to find out what it is all about?
The last one wasn't about going into Europe, it was about staying in the Common Market That some idiot called Heath had already signed us up to without asking us. Because the people will do as they are told, their opinion isn't important. where do they think they are ? In a democracy ?

Yes it will be about changing the voting system to the alternative vote one. Yea or nay. There are many many threads about it here on the forums. I think I must have posted in about half a dozen of them.

I suspect this thread is a wind up, but the AV system allows you to list second and third etc. choices, rather than just your favourite candidate. The candidate who gets the fewest votes drops out. Those who voted for him then have their votes moved to their second favourite. And so on, round after round, until one candidate has more than 50% of the votes cast and so can not be beaten.

See other threads for opinions on whether this is a good or bad idea.

it's definately not a wimd up the cards coming through the door today were the first i had heard of it, I don't watch the news, read newspapers nor read anythinhg political and so i have no idea what it is all about,
Question Author
I've just read a BBC fact sheet about it and it still means nowt to me, where/why/ did they come up with the idea?
The system has been around for years. Considering it is a sop to the Libs for forming the coalition. May not be the PR system they would hope for, but it is something for them. Sorry but I'm just amazed anyone hasn't heard of it, especially visitors here.
It was a condition of the coalition.

The liberals have campaigned for a change to our voting system for years to break the 2-party stranglehold.

Dotty....you've been on AB for nigh on 5 years, you've posted almost 7500 threads, how can you say you dont watch the news, read the papers nor read anything political. If that is true then just throw the voting card away because you clearly dont give a shiit about whats going on around you.

No it means I worked 53 hours over 6 days last week with an hours drive each way each day added on, kinda means you have tea when you get in (chippy tea on 2 of the days cos too chattered to cook), nosey about in CB and genealogy for a bit then fall asleep in front of the soaps/US cop dramas. How was your week?
