Whatever happens we'll have to take it on the chin but the whole idea of a vaccination programme was so that we wouldn't have any more of these peremptory lockdowns. Still, OH and I are key workers and have both become homebodies so it won't affect us too badly. I just feel sorry for people on their own who don't have family / friends to call.

I don't really see any cause to lockdown unless hospital admissions / deaths start rising. Cases are not the same as admissions / deaths.

Remember in July and early August, by popular demand by vast pleading from some of the public and members of AB , with cases of Covid, still rising, hospitalisation and deaths low but still rising, the Government decided to lift the restriction and people thought and acted as if the pandemic had ended...........it hadn't.

Don't blame the virus, but save your blame for the response of the population and the caving in at that time, of the Government.

Brace yourselves for a Christmas lockdown.

I'm not sure many (that I know anyway) would cooperate with a Christmas lockdown again. They did everything they were asked to last year, but this can't continue.

How dangerous is omicrom, death and illness wise? Is this the one we should all get to immunise ourselves, or wait for another strain?

Personally, I'd question the science. Thats how science works, It questions itself, thats how it moves forward (It doesnt just accept itself)
There's enough scientists now (virologists, epidemologists, M.d's etc) not to mention poloticians
that are questioning the narrative.
Not Karen from Facebook or Tom from You Tube or any other such childish appelations applied to those that question.

Yes, as the chances of being seriously ill or dying are far lower for vaccinated than unvaccinated, but vaccines wear off so the booster is needed.

Most of the hospitals here in Lancashire are desperately trying to cope with an unprecedented demand for hospital beds. The critical care ward at one Hospital near us is full and patients are having to be transferred to wherever there are beds available in other hospitals.
A lot of the patients are unvaccinated and much younger than those of last year . They might not be dying but are filling the hospitals to capacity. Some of the staff are falling ill with Covid and staff shortages are increasing.
No-one knows enough about this virus and some people need to stop playing the 'blame game' and start acting responsibly .

Firstly nailit is right. Notwithstanding all the measures he mentions Covid is running rampant in very many countries - so they are,effectively, almost useless and i.m.o. cause far more societal harm than they do medical good.

Vaccines do make a difference in that the vaccinated are less likely to die or clog-up beds, but that's about all. A vaccinated person can pass on Covid to a healthy, unvaccinated person in any situation.

As for the hospital beds problem - that is the perennial 'inefficient NHS' plaint. Despite the vast amounts thrown at it, the NHS provides fewer beds per 1,000 than most european countries.
Money thrown at it is money wasted - it disappears into unnecessary management and beaurocracy.

Example (small one, there are many, many more) the invitation letter for a Covid vaccination is 2x A4 sheets. Over one of these is taken up with 32 (yes, 32) translations into other languages. Excess postage, paper, ink and time.

I assure you that in France only one language is used (French). If you need a translator it is up to you to provide one.

I know that's a pettyfogging example - but it matters. Waste and inefficiency are evident everywhere.

The NHS needs root and branch reform - fast.
