I have gone as far as nailing down a piece of corrugated iron that flaps around on a shed adjoining the house and have undertaken a modification to enable me to close the barn doors to keep our alpacas, horses and goat safe and out of the wind. We have many trees on a virtual cliff face to the rear of us and if they blow down they will land on our house from quite a height.

Only what I can - cut back some overgrowth in the garden, moved the garden furniture to safer places, moved the recycling bins. Hopefully the roof and chimneys are safe, but in an 1860s house, it's dependent on the storm level.

I've just moved my food recycling bin and put a brick on top of the other bins. don't know what else to do as I live in a terrace and don't have a garage.

I've got all those things, FGT - unusually, I bought a big bottle of water yesterday to drink at an event - now I just have to find them - I know where the torches are, they are always hanging on the turn of each banister on the stairs!

Dee Sa, "personally RATTER if I had animals outside in a barn I would go and stay with them to keep them calm, but don't mind me I am a townie" No I wont be doing that lol, these animals are used to living out doors, they will be warm and comfy in their barn, I would not, and apart from that I cant be in three barns all at the same time. My biggest concern is my eggs in the incubator and my chicks under the heat lamp if we get a power cut in the night. :-(

I've put the garden furniture in the summer house, wedged the wheelie bins up against the wall, put all the garden pots against the wall. I've just been out a put the watering cans inside as I'd forgotten about them down the side of the shed.

Should I get calor gas bottle and burner in from the shed or wait to see if we need it first? I can't be doing with overkill. Might have a shower tonight incase there's no hot water in the morning and then just have cereal and milk for breakfast. I can easily do without a hot drink if there's no leccy.

Ratter can you not put them in a room with a real fire to keep the chicks warm? and the eggs can go in the boiler room can't they?

friedgreentomato, I have made sure we have plenty of hot water in the immersion so I can use plenty of hot water bottles for them if need be. We don't have a boiler room and we aren't using any heating yet.

I bought a torch which it turns out doesn't work! :(

I made sure food was out early for the hedgehogs and one has just been so glad I know he's had some food and can get tucked up away from the weather. He was still munching on his cat food and mealworms last I looked and can hear another one rummaging about.
