The band's front man, Ryan Tedder, is credited as the writer of the song, so it's definitely an original track by One Republic. According to Wikipedia, it has been used as the theme tune for some American reality TV prog, maybe that's where you heard it? Or maybe one of those X-Factor contestants performed it?
