how do you take the words off songs?

I need to make some songs i know into instrumential pieces to use as Gymnastics Floor music.... . no singing is allowed. So if anyone can give me advice on how to do this ,that would be great. Terzza

If they are pop songs, see if you can get karaoke versions - they will have the vocals taken off. Try http://www.cookies.co.uk/ and see if they can help.
Or if you've got a decent soundcard on your PC, try downloading a MIDI file and recording that.
On a stereo mix, the vocals are usually in the centre. If you load the file into a wave editor you will see two waveforms, one for left and one for right. Select one of them and 'invert' it. This should cancel out anything in the centre of the stereo picture and that is generally the vocals.
Smorordina, excuse my ignorance here, but where do you find a wave editor?
