Dear Yogi,

I understand you are a musician with a good reputation. If that is the case then I have a request for you.

Would you be interested in performing a gig at the camp i'm based on. We wouldn't be able to pay (as the MOD is currently skint, and is struggling to pay wages, let alone organise social events) and there would only be a few hundred people there (it's a small base). The base is in London.

instead of payment, we could offer as much beer as you can drink, and the opportunity to spend the night with a bunch of pissed up servicemen from all three services.
We may even to be arrange something special (such as a Chinook ride or day out with tanks) for you or a loved one.

I'd understand if you can't or have contractual obligations that prevent this sort of thing. However, nothing ventured, nothing gained lol

Cheers mate

Having spent a considerable amount of my time on 'a base' and not even been allowed in an MT jeep I think the Chinook ride may be a bit of a stretch

Dot, it's not what you know, it's who you know.

PS We haven't used Jeeps since the second world war
I think you just put Yogi on the spot. :-)
gotta see how this turns out ...
The MT and MRT all use jeeps but they have Land Rover written on their tailgate

can I come? what part of London?
Question Author
Society, as I said. Nothing ventured etc. If there was a way to do this in private I would.

Dot, if it says land Rover on the back that's because it is a LR lol
In my day the Red Dragon aka the naafi bar always had a decent DJ, he did 2 nights a week at the FBI too.
O think Dot's been watching Hanover St too much
Question Author
NAAFI's pretty much dead and buried now Dot. It's all done by private companies chasing a profit, mores the pity.
Hi bobjugs,

I'm not a musician, as in, play with a band, but I am a club DJ........take it you are looking for a band specifically to play for the good servicemen there, and for no payment.......but good times.... correct?.......If so, i maybe able to help.
When would this be for?
Don`t go discussing venues, dates etc via email, do it on here
Question Author
Mate, honestly any act whether it be Musician, Superstar DJ (like yourself) or magician would be good. It's just about providing entertainment.

The time and date would be entirely dependent on your act although midweek would be good for us. And yeah, we couldn't afford to pay but can give you plenty of Sambuca and Stella ;)

Cheers mate, you're a star!
I've found a facebook site linked to the old base, bloody hell it's like going back to my old school!
Does it also mean they charge full price for the alw with no concessions, back in my day it was 1.50 for a double Vodka and orange
I'm not on the guest list then :o/
Question Author
I hope that was tongue in cheek elvis, i've been in this job 10 years mate. I'm not stupid lol
Question Author
Sara, what would possibly appeal to a young lady about spending all night with a group of servicemen and a superstar act?
I'll pay......
