There was a version from 1966 by Bobby Fuller Four, but the more famous one is by the Clash.

The song was writen by Sonny Curties who was originally with the Crickets following Buddy Holly's death.  The Crickets, with Sonny Curtis recorded the song as a cut on an LP album in 1959 or 1960.  Sounded a lot like Buddy Holly, as did the better know version by Fuller...
