yesterday, about 5.30 and just before we closed at 6pm, I spotted 2 girls messing about with some small itens of stock and I asked them if they were ok, then noticed through a semi-transparent clairs accessories bag the girl kneeeling infront of a fixture had, an item we sell, i went over to her and from where i srood i could see the item quite clearly, so i asked her if she had just bought that, she panicked and put it and another similar item back on the shelf. Then her mate starts starts chattering away really oddly, then i noticed they both had small carrier bags that were full to bursting with something. I asked them if they would mind emptying the bags and they did, there must have been at least 100 small items from clairs accessories in those bags, including 3 purses. several dozen pairs of earings, all new on their display cards, necklaces, hair clips. they then start saying that claires had a but 10 items or 3 pounds lucky bag offer on. i asked them how much they had spent and they said £3 each. As I was the manager in charge it was up to me what i did.
I waloked away, rang the park loss prevention on the walkie talkie and waited. the girls just stood there and started trying to cry, blaming one another, ringing their dad to say i had told them they couldn;t leave blah blah blah,
the security guy came and he was disgusted at their language, they were both dressed like tarts, and it turned out one was 11 and one was 12.
They were told to leave and that the open invitation for them to shop in the store had been withdrawn.

Well, what would you have done?

bearing in mind we are not allowed to carry AK 47s on the shop floor....
I'm sorry dot but my eyes went funny half way through reading that....
You mad woman??

I would have planted you if you had treated any of my kids like that -youre like the gestapo.

No plaudits from me little wonder they were in tears being faced with you -its bad enough on here !!
It just gets better -now she wants to carry an AK47 and the kids are 11 and 12 !!!!!
Why did you not 'phone the police?
Question Author
I didn't treat them badly at all, i walked away, like i said,. they swore at each other like dockers and the little toe rags tried to blame each other. which of those traits do you admire then?
She thinks she is the Police!

and they were dressed like tarts -very nice......................
Took the goods off them and asked for receipts!! It's theft pure and simple!!
Question Author
Loss Prevention make the decision on whether to call the police, he escorted them from the store, I haven't been in work today and so I do not know whether he did or not. i hope he did, they were a pair of gutter chavs who'e parents need educating
Sorry dot -- don't understand .I thought you worked in a travel agents. Silly me!!!!
Hi dot. If they didn't have a receipt for the stuff they had on them, I would have phoned the police for advice.
Question Author
Dris: what part of 'I walked away and rang loss prevention is causing you to make nasty comments about me? Pack it in, i know the law where this is concerned if you don't.
was Dot aggressive? threatening? violent? ... no

the only thing I would have liked to see was the police collect them and take them back to the parents in the small hope they would be able to deal with them.
Question Author
o we don't ring the police Loss prevention do, asnd i hope they did. If shop lifting is ok to some people it definately isn;t to me, what is the age of criminal responsibilty in England again?
is it claires you work in dot ?

if so i would have let them walk out.....phoned the police and had them punished ,sorry if this offends anyone but when they are starting at that age how old do you think they are going to be when it's cars they are stealing .....i wouldn't let my daughters away with it and no self respecting mother would!!
I think you should be ashamed of yourself as a grown woman treating kids like that -you had no right and you shouls have called the Police.

Not content with regaling us with what happened in great detail they also were given a character assasination by you -just who do you think you are Dot?

At this i'll leave the thread as for once after my initial knee jerk reaction I am now shaking my head in disbelief at your arrogance.
Obviously Dris approves of shoplifting!!
sorry just noticed it wasn't up to you whether to phone them or not ....in my opinion you should be able to
Question Author
probably 1955 she is just viciously refusing to notice that i followed the rules and left the job of dealing with them to the correct person, However, like alot of people who look down on shop workers, she thinks I am not allowed to have an actual opinion.
Sounds like she has a problem with you
