Go to new street train station, then train to Birmingham International. It is only a couple of stops, not very expensive but i don't know how much as i haven't done that journey for a while.

i'm sorry but how far from the NEC is Birmingham internation station?
The NEC is next to Birmingham International station. See here for directions:

Tonyav's suggested route involves a bit of a hike (estimated at 11 minutes on the NEC website) to get to Birmingham New Street station, followed by a 10 to 15 minute train journey. You might find it simpler to catch the service 900 bus (every 30 minutes, 25 minute journey) directly from Digbeth Coach Station to Birmingham International Interchange. See here:

Bus fares within the West Midlands are some of the cheapest in the country. The single fare is £1.70 but you can get a day's unlimited travel on National Express West Midlands bus services for £3.30.

if your coach calls at birmingham airport, get off there instead of the city centre coach station, and take the free "transport" from there to birmingham international station.

Good idea. In case the poster does not know, the NEC, Birmingham International train station, and Birmingham airport, are all very very close to each other.
