There are two blue plaques on adjacent buildings in the West End of London, one commemorating Handel and the other Jimi Hendrix.  As the much inferior musician, should Handel's plaque be now removed in favour of the incomparable Jimi Hendrix?

??????????????????????????????????????????

What makes Handel inferior to Hendrix ?

Handel wrote some great classical music.

Hendrix played guitar with the aid of special effects, and and is a totally different category of music.

This reeks of musical snobbery, there is room for all sorts of music in this world.  There are most likely many who would view it the other way.  Does Hendrix deserve a blue plaque anywhere near Handels.

I am happy for both plaques to remain.

Yes, in answer to my own question, I was only playing devil's advocate.  I agree entirely that both plaques should remain, of which there has never been even the slightest doubt;  Handel was every bit as excellent a musician in his musical idiom as was Hendrix in his, of course.

Sorry if I've trodden on any toes!

grrr - was about to get all hufty but I'm calm again now.....

Go on get huffy, let off some steam.

Will it help if I say Handel's plaque should be bigger than Hendrix ?

well.... I'm over it now. Just like to say though that as by far the best beatle, it seems unfair that macca has no airport named after him but the cheesy pseudo-hippy gets all the plaudits.

Don't forget, though, Paul McCartney has been knighted and given his name to that Liverpool music school, the name of which escapes me!   Better than taking five bullets in the chest like his illustrious former band mate John Lennon, I would have thought.  Incidentally, does anyone agree with me that as a former Beatle then Ringo should also be knighted?  As for John and George, can knighthoods be awarded posthumously?

"Old Wrinkly's Academy of the Banal", wasn't it?And yes' I'd go for Sir Ringo. No worse than the majority of talentless half-wits who buy honours with their generous political donations.

You are very silly and have obviously not heard Handel's Messiah. I must admit thugh that Hendrix is, without comparison, the greatest guitarist.

Yes, Adeybaby, I am indeed very silly.  You just ask my wife, or the walrus as she is better known!  ("I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob").

It's only a bit of fun, you know ...!
