Can anyone think of some really effective and emotional songs? I like to use them in my drama pieces at school and am always on the look out for more. Stuff I have used in the past includes stuff like 'Hush, Hush, Hush' by Paula Cole and also songs by Sarah McLachlan. Usually I like music that isn't necesarily very famous or well heard. Would really appreciate peoples ideas.

Off the top of my head - 'The Chain' - Fleetwood Mac, 'Long Distance Love' - Little Feat, 'Stop' - Sam Brown, 'If You Could Read My Mind' - Gordon Lightfoot. I'll post some more when i check my CD collection tonight.
First song that came into my head was "Let me In" By "Save Ferris"

mcguire88 - there are many types of 'emotion' - perhaps if you gave a little more info into the 'mood' or scenario of your drama pieces us ABers could dig deep into our dodgey CD collections and find you some real obscure but effective stuff....

The Duet from Pearl Fishers (Bizet) is quite moving, but it's also quite famous...

Iris by the Goo goo dolls, That I would be good by alanis morrisette, You look so fine by garbage, Newborn by elbow (I think), Achillies heel by toploader, um . . . . can't think of any more right now.
dance with my father by luther vandross

Karyn white = Superwoman

In my drama pieces at uni i used a couple of Tracy Chapman classics- Fast Car and also Behin the Wall. Behind the wall was used in my piece about domestic violence and it is so relelvent. But i suggest listening to her album it'll give you the world of inspiration.

'Song to the Siren' by This mortal Coil.
Listen to anything by Beth Orton
you should get some stuff by avalanches or the avalanches sorry cannot remember what their proper name is but its quite contemporary and i really like it, also try groove armada's album vertigo there might be some good stuff on that good luck!
defo look out for "Colourblind" by Counting Crows. Such a beautiful song, very emotional
true companion  by American singer MARC COHN

Please Please Please Let Me Get What I want - The Smiths, I Know It's Over - The Smiths (makes me a bit weepy),  Fake Plastic Trees - Radiohead, Johnny Cash's version of Hurt, Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division, The Dark Is Rising - Mercury Rev, With or Without You - U2.

You might tell i'm something of a miserable git sometimes.

If You're Looking For A Way Out by Odessey, it's terribly sad.
Try Fountain of Sorrow by Jackson Browne

"One" - U2 or anything by Morrisey

Sprogglin, miserable git you may be, but you've got great taste in music!  I was just going to post Johnny Cash's 'Hurt', but you beat me to it and Fake Plastic Trees, well.....
