I bought an Electrolux Z4712az from Tesco less than a year ago. I've hated the vac from day 1 as it's the most rubbish vac EVER! And it seems lots of other people feel the same reading the reviews. I am now at the end of my tether and want my money back. The tesco receipt says dont return to store after 28 days, but there is a 1 year guarantee. I rang the Electrolux helpline, they said the line is only for repairs to faults, or parts. They said go to Tesco. I have rung the Tesco electrical helpline. The recorded msg says they believe the manufacturer is the best place to go to and give you the number. I want my 70 back so I can put it towards something a lot better. Does anyone have any experience of this, any solutions?? Thank you

To get your money back it has got to be faulty in which case it is the retailer who is responsible. In that case you would have to give Tesco the chance to repair it now you have had the item, and used it, for "nearly a year", and only if that fails would you be able to get a refund from them.

If it works as it should, but you don't just like it, then you are not entitled to a refund.

I bought a Dyson upright SDC15 the lightweight version (not a ball ) and after 40 yrs of vacuuming this is the best worth every penny of the 200 you get what you pay for I am afraid
"after 40 yrs of vacuuming"

Blimey, you must have a big house - I can do ours in about 20 minutes.
I think it`s a bit late to complain, as it sounds like you`ve been using it for quite a while.
You say you`ve hated it from day one, you should have returned it then.
Also you don`t say it has a fault, just that it`s a rubbish vac. You stand no chance of getting your money back, and I doubt if you can get a repair as it isn`t faulty. sounds as if it just isn`t as efficient as you would like.
I agree with YvonneM, you get what you pay for.

There are very specific faults with it, the same faults many other people have with it when I've checked on various review sites, however, the problem is happening more and more frequently which is why it is now more of an issue. There's a year's guarantee. My question was "does anyone have any experience of this, or solutions?" not "can anybody rub it in a bit more that at the time I didn't have 200 to spend on the top vac on the market". But thanks to those people with genuine useful contributions.
If it has a specific fault that makes the vacuum 'unfit for purpose' then you have every right to return it to the retailer you purchased it from.

Don't accept it from them, that you should take the matter up with the manufacturer, your contract is between yourself and the retailer.

If you have no joy, tell them you are going to take the matter up with Trading Standards, and do it.
I read an article inThe Daily Mail early in the week there is a little known E U directive that gives the consumer a 2 year Guarantee.Store staff will try to deny this because they dont know this particular bit of law or hope you will back down. The test case the paper cites is against Tescos who eventually backed down and gave the customer a replacement television because the original TV was not repairable. Hope this helps anyone, but the goods have to be faulty. P S the television was 18 months old with the standard 1 year Guarantee.
Just a rider to my previous answer, Google E U 2 year guarantee for a better explanation.
