Lots of people really.... I'm sure Sinatra did it as a cover I'm sure but I think the guy who first recorded and wrote it was the same guy who wrote Franks "My Way" ....and I cannot get his name at this minute though I can see him in my mind.
20minutes later it has come to me the name of the guy in post above was it Paul Anka??? A really talented songwriter/singer.....

Joao Gilberto & his wife Astrud Gilberto with Stan Getz on sax

The original long version has Joao singing in brazillian (portugese or whatever) with Astrud taking over in English this was later edited to just Astrud for the single release.

The song was written by Antonio Carlos Jobim & Norman Gimbel with the Portugese lyrics by Vinicius De Moraes.

Paul Anka may have recorded a version, but I haven't heard it.

He is credited with writing 'My Way', but that is not quite accurate. An original French version 'Pour Mois' was written by Jacques Reveaux in 1967. The song was later reworked by Claude Francois and Giles Thibault and renamed 'Comme D'habitude', and was this version that Paul Anka heard performed by Francois; at which point Anka called the songwriters, negotiated a deal for the rights, and put English lyrics to the song.

this song has become a standard and I think it has to be one of the most covered songs ever. As BobbyX correctly said, it is an Antonio  Carlos Jobim composition. The most famous version is the Joao and Astrud Gilberto version, released on Verve back in the mid 60s." Garota de Ipanema"   appears on many Brazilian music compilations.
