Turkish Wedding....

I`ve been invited to a Turkish wedding reception along with a few workmates, we`ve been told by the man himself that this will not be like an English wedding reception and when asked about it he just says "wait and see"...any ideas?

I've been to a few weddings here and in Turkey.
If it's here it will be more like a western wedding than the 3 day affairs they have quite often in Turkey.
Be sure to take some money (instead of a present) you will be invited to pin it on the groom (it is usual for the brides' family and friends to pin on her and his on to him) They usually have long red ribbons and there are pins attached. Form an orderly queue.
The bride and groom will dance together but it is more usual for all the women to dance together and the men also.
If it is traditional there will be no alcohol (I'm assuming he is muslim - Turkey being a secular country not all are muslims)but lots to end and a massive wedding cake maybe 6 or 7 tiers. Depends how traditional it is.
No reception will be complete without the Turkish wedding dance complete with hanky. All the men will also take turn to dance in the middle. Great dancers - if you have a camera take it .

What was the point of posting that into this thread then R1Geezer. You don't need to mention the words Turkish or muslim. Your post says it all.
However, having said that R1Geezer is correct. Turkey is a mainly muslim country but a more westernised one.
I have been to hundreds of Turkish Cypriot weddings and they are almost identical. As Cath says take money with you as opposed to presents. Presents are usually given at engagements rather than weddings. There isn't that much difference really. You should get a Turkish meze to start with then the main meal.
