I'd just like to say what a fantastic man he was, and I'm sure he'll be sorely missed.

I thought you were taking the P... and just checked the news hats of to a legend gutted. ;.(
A very sad loss to British music. He is irreplaceable and his place as a great broadcaster assured.

I just got really pee'd off because very few people in my office know who he is! It's very sad..
Good man for posting this thread Georgit. Decent bloke, massive intergrity, did so much for music. I'm off to play 'Teeenage Kicks'

He provided the soundtrack to all of my teenage years.
I met him backstage at a Finlay Quaye / Paul Weller gig and he was a lovely guy.

Can't believe it, Saturday mornings won't be the same now...
This is so sad...that instantly recognisable voice...the humour....a lovely man, he will be greatly missed.
All the 30 and 40-something music fans in my office who grew up listening to him are gutted.  He was an absolute legend.  Is there anyone else on the radio who even comes close?
British music owes a huge debt to the great man.  Someone with integrity and balls, experimental and he opened up a lot of doors for alternative music.  A sad loss.

I'm so pleased to see so many positive things said about the great John Peel, he was a legand and the world will be a sadder place tomorrow.

only just found out now : ( and really regret not listening to him more. and that i never kept the articles that he wrote in the radio times. adn taped all his midnight sessions like an enterprising old friend of mine did. and again : ( thanks for everything john

For a while in my teens and twenties I wanted to be John Peel ....to my mind he had it all.... sadly missed.....

I'll be toasting JP and listening to The Fall tonight.

really sad news. As many of you have said, those of a certain age (30+) are just gutted. Thoughts immediately to his family.  If we're all going to miss him this much...how must they be feeling.  That instantly recognisable voice.....hard to believe it's gone, and such a funny man, not just on the radio, I loved his contributions on Grumpy Old Men.

Cheers JP, and thanks.xx

This thirtysomething (for a couple of months) was very tearful when he heard the news this afternoon.

I still listen to the shows I recorded during the 1980s and am forever grateful for the music that I've been introduced to.

There Is A Light That Never Goes Out.

It's so sad, my boyfriend rang me to tell me this afternoon and I've been in a bit of a daze ever since.  I used to listen to Home Truths (not as often as I wish I had) and it always felt like a private, cosy chat with him - I'll miss him very much and I'm sure that there can't be many people who've switched on a radio in the last 40 years who won't mourn the passing of this 'Godlike Genius' of a man.

Thankyou for the music, RIP xxx

John Peel was instrumental in defining my musical tastes. I used to listen to him on my radio under the bed covers at school and his infectious enthusiasm, dry humour and willingness to play anything that had a smattering of musical credibility encouraged me to look past the mediocrity of the charts in the 80s.

Thank you John. You made a difference.

Unbelievable. I am gutted. When I think of all the nights I spent listening to him when I was younger I feel I owe him a debt of gratitude for introducing me to some great music. Where else have you ever heard The Inflatable Boy Clams? Sadly missed.
