How do you say DUCK??

Do you put an R in it and switch the O to a U, thus pronouncing it DORK??

The reason I ask is the latest Kate Rushby cover of the Kinks "Village Green Preservation Society".

Listen to how she says DUCK at about 26 seconds and throughout the song. I believe she is a Yorkshire lass.

I, for one, find it very irritating.

Are you going to tell me to FORK off?

I'm Northern and I have never called anyone duck. I find southerners irritating who constantly think they are far superior to people from the north.

There is no argument nor Englishism anywhere in my thread.

It is started "Northern Women" for it is them to whom I am addressing.

Now I wish I put Toothless Hags with aprons and wrinkled stockings Nora Batty lookalikes Northern trollops!!!!

Christ, you try and be friendly and somebody starts!!!!
I am from the south and live there now but I lived in Lancashire for a few years (my eldest son was born there). I find that wherever you are there are lots of really interesting local expressions.
(And I like the Kate Rusby song but I am irritated by her pronounciation of Duck too)
Had a litle listen to the link and I think she's Irish hence the pronunciation...
LOL Then you would of had a riot on here

No she is definately a Yorkshire lass.
Let me re-visit and come back to you..
I worked for a few years in London and found that my northern accent was very amusing to the local folk they would mimic me all the time and it was very tiresome.. Their were 2 cockney lasses in the same office and their accents were undecipherable.
She pronounces duck just like Lisa Stansfield does.I wonder if they're from the same place???
