Could it be Dinah Washington or Rudy Vallee?
There are also versions, possibly, by Diana Krall, Queen Latifah and Jennifer Lopez.

None of rthe verisons I mention has "saving the world' as an image...but I still feel that's your song.

You could email BBC2 on their homepage.
It's not The Korgis is it, "If I Had You". They sing `change` as opposed to `save` though, worth a shout maybe.

The other day I saw you walking
you looked as pretty as a peach
you looked so near
but yet somehow, you're out of reach

I could change the world
if I had you
I could change the world
if I had you

My daddy told me not to worry
he said, "Son it always comes
to he who waits"
but as I wait I fear sometimes
"Oh, no! it's too late"

I could change the world
if I had you
I could change the world
if I had you

I could change the world
if I had you
I could change the world
if I had you

If you know which programme it was played on you can view the playlist on the Radio 2 site. Probably not tuntil tomorrow though as it is showing yesterdays at the moment.
Jeez...I remember the Korgis now!
Hi astondog - I was listening to this song this morning thinking out how lovely it was!! It's the Korgis and If I Had You! Funny how we drift over to Radio 2 isn't it!!! LOL!
They also did "Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime" who remembers that then? Ahem.... showing my age!!!!........
I'd agree it's definitely The Korgis with If I Had You. Its gorgeous tune is based on Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini (Variation 18), which itself is based on Paganini's Caprice No 24 in A Minor. So it's a re-write of a re-write. Did you know that? More to the point, did you care? ;-)

It's one of several 'pop' tunes to have been cribbed from classical music, but it's still a belter in my book.
