the original version was written by a punk band called splodgenessabounds in 1980 and is on their album called the artful splodger....

No it wasn't! That's a completely different song. The TV theme is called "Lager" and was written specially for the programme by Christian Henson. You can download it for free from his website at http://www.hensonmusic.com/pages/thelab.html

the song is the same, its just not the same version used on the programme
