eevrything copied is illegal in UK. it breach of copyright. if its personal use, say u copy a cd on ur computer from a mate, then thats illegal but nobody will find out, even if they do they wont care, its a kind of everyone does it thing. like downloading music from the internet. video recorders are ok tho for recording off tv. but copying an official film video (like titanic or sumthing) is called piracy...like when u get that warning at the start of a video? lol hope thats helps, as long as its personal use it isnt really a problem.
I'm not 100% certain, but is it not legal for a person to make a single copy of everything they own (CD's, DVD's, Videos etc.) to use as a sort of back-up in case something terrible happens to the original?
I think making a back-up falls under "fair use", but that's a bit of a grey area legally. But as long as you're not making a profit out of it (or doing loads and loads of copies) they're not going to try to prosecute you.
Roz Has it wrong I am afraid...Breach of copyright only exists if you make copies with the intent of supplying them..."Back up" copies made for yourself are legal within the copyright agreement as Step666 says...The intent to make a profit from copying has to be proved....added to this you have to remember that this is a civil issue and not something the police get readily involved in anyways.
Copied CDs, DVDs, Games, etc. are legal as long as you own - and can produce - the original.
