I have been having many problems with my dvd recorder and would like to know what brand of dvd disc do you use, do you have any problems when recording and are there any brands that you steer clear of.

I have been using Memorex and Philips mainly and both have been causing problems but I have noticed that Maxell seems to have fewer problems.

Alternatively there may be a problem with the recorder itself and I may need to change that.

Thanks for any help.

Is it a TV DVD recorder or a PC dvd recorder???
I've always found datawrite to be good.

DVD+R is better than DVD-R, but -R has more wide support, especially with some older players (standalone ones, mainly).

Another thing to note: try recording at the lowest speed that you can, and doing nothing else while it's burning.

Thanks both for your answers. Spaced - I am talking about a tv dvd recorder.
If you look at the SVP site as recommended by fo3nix you will see reviews from people who have used the discs and how they have found them.

I too have had good results over the years with the Datawrite -R discs.

For +RW in my Liteon DVD recorder I have found the Verbatim discs to be excellent.
Discs do behave differently in different machines and is sometimes trial and error to get the right one for your machine.

Sometimes the DVD recorder manufacturers website has recommendations.

I always buy the same brand of disc as who make the DVD Recorder, had no problems so far !

Thanks everyone for the replies.

Yesterday I did a Google search on the model number of my recorder and I couldn't believe the amount of complaints that this model has generated over the last couple of years.

I shall be returning it to Argos on Monday.
Can you name the make of your recorder starrs, perhaps it would be useful to other ABers who are considering buying a DVD Recorder?
