When I was a little girl, my Mum used to sing a little french ditty to me.I have no idea how it is spelt so I will spell it as I remember it. Allo weta -----allo wetta allo wetta -----.
I know this is a long shot but does anyone know what this was?

Sounds like Alouette. Here's the complete lyrics:

Alouette, gentille Alouette
Alouette, je te plumerai
Je te plumerai la tte
Je te plumerai la tte
Et la tte
Et la tte
Alouette etc.

Thanks Robbo82. How on earth did you find the answer? I don't suppose you know what it means do you?
basically is "skylark, pretty skylark, i will pull off your head and your beak, pluck you and eat you" nice song for kiddies eh??
Lark, nice Lark (or Lark, lovely Lark)
Lark, I am going to pluck you
I am going to pluck your head,
I am going to pluck your head,
And the head, and the head,
O-o-o-o-oh

I hope my Mum didn't understand what she was singing to me, mind you, when you think about it, a lot of childrens nursery songs have cruel words.
Thanks to all.
