now that courtney love has sold 20something % of nirvanas back catalogue, does this mean they will be sold off to these manufactured bands who will ruin the classic songs kurt wrote

Why would manufactured bands want Kurt's dreary songs? Anyway, the answer is no - music publishing doesn't work like that.

I thought the fact that, for example, Paul McCartney doesn't own the back catalogue to his Beatles stuff meant he had to pay royalties to play it live...

Nonetheless, there probably haven't been any floodgates opened. Shame really. Was anyone else looking forward to Girls Aloud's take on "Rape Me"?
