Arthur Lee is indeed serving a lengthy prison sentence in the ironically named Pleasant Valley State Prison for discharging a firearm, resulting in a 12-year term.
Love was one of the original sixties hippy rock band, and they remain a massive influence on West Coast rock, and dozens of musicans credit Arthur Lee for his pioneering arranging and production work. Lee gave the fledgling Jimi Hendrix an early studio gig, and Hendrix may well have lifted aspects of his sartorial style from the psychedelic guru.
Although Lee languishes in prison, having had two legal appeals refused, he has fared better than his band mates -
guitarist Bryan Maclean and bassist Ken Forssi are dead, flautist and saxophonist Tjay Cantrelli (real name John Barberis) is presumed dead, guitarist Johnny Echols's whereabouts are uknown, rumours have him as a desert dweller, and Alan 'Snoopy' Pfisterer who played drums and keyboards is also missing, whereabouts unkown. Drummer Michael Stuart changed careers, becoming a professional photographer, but is living under an assumed name, taking no part in his famous band's continuing legendary status.
Arthur Lee was released earlier this year and I think has just done a small tour. He also played a live show with Shack which was released on CD a couple of years ago. Good album apart from the sound quality which is terrible!
